Welcome to Peace Willow Therapy, located in the serene neighborhood of Edge Hill, Cairns. My name is Wendy Smith, and I am a dedicated counsellor and therapist who specializes in talk therapy, play therapy, and sandplay therapy.

At Peace Willow Therapy, we provide our services to individuals of all ages. Our aim is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable and supported. We believe in the power of trust-based, non-judgmental, and empathetic counselling to help people identify their goals and achieve them.

Talk therapy, also known as psychotherapy, is a fundamental tool used by mental health professionals to communicate with their patients. Its purpose is to assist individuals in identifying and addressing the issues that cause emotional distress. Whether these issues are complex or simply related to daily stressors, medical illness, relationship problems, grief and loss, or the impact of a specific trauma, talk therapy provides a safe space to discuss and process feelings and emotions.

Once these issues are identified, our therapists work with you to understand how they are affecting your life and develop strategies and solutions to alleviate symptoms. Through talk therapy, improved communication, coping skills, strengthened self-esteem, and behavioral changes can be achieved.

For children, we offer play therapy, a unique approach that allows them to express themselves through play and toys. This therapeutic method provides a safe and nurturing environment where children can experience safety, build self-confidence, and learn to navigate problem behaviors. Our play therapy sessions are guided by the expertise of Dee Ray, an advanced play therapist.

In addition to talk therapy and play therapy, we also offer sandplay therapy. This nonverbal, therapeutic intervention uses a sandbox, toy figures, and sometimes water to create scenes of miniature worlds that reflect a person's inner thoughts, struggles, and concerns. Sandplay therapy provides a powerful avenue for self-expression and exploration.
