About Epic Psychotherapy
Welcome to Epic Psychotherapy, located at Gibbs Court in Douglas, Australia. As an establishment dedicated to health and well-being, Epic Psychotherapy provides individual counseling and psychotherapy to individuals in need of support for their mental wellness. Our goal is to guide and assist people in moving towards a better version of themselves in all aspects of life.
At Epic Psychotherapy, we are a registered and approved NDIS provider of counseling services, welcoming individuals who both self-manage and have planned managed access to the NDIS. We strive to support all individuals seeking wellness and strengthening their mental health, helping them develop greater resilience in responding to adversity.
Our experienced psychotherapist and credentialed mental health nurse, Evan Player, has over 25 years of experience supporting individuals with mental health concerns. Evan is passionate about assisting you in reaching your potential and invites you to get to know him on a personal level. He takes the time to ask skillful questions, aiming to understand your experiences and uncover any hidden issues.
Before becoming a mental health professional, Evan worked in a foundry, demonstrating his understanding of hard work. He also served in the Army before finding his calling as a Mental Health Nurse. With his extensive experience in the public sector, working on behalf of the State Government, Evan was highly commended for his outstanding display of respect in the Townsville Hospital and Health Service Australia Day Awards in 2017. He has completed his academic studies and holds two master's degrees in the mental health field. Evan takes pride in his ability to understand academic research and concepts related to good mental health and effectively communicate them to all individuals.
Evan is always open for a conversation, eager to learn, and genuinely interested in understanding those around him. His excellent listening skills have allowed him to apply psychology and ethics in a way that promotes a fulfilling life. One valuable observation Evan has made is that many people struggle with their relationships, whether with intimate partners, family members, children, or work colleagues. At Epic Psychotherapy, we work with individuals to become more skillful in negotiating these relationships. We assess the issues and determine whether they can be changed or accepted as they are, aiming to promote wisdom and courage in authentic relationships.
Evan, being neuro-diverse himself with mild to moderate autism, understands the challenges faced by individuals on the spectrum. He has developed strategies that have allowed him to succeed in the mental health sector and navigate neuro-normative-dominated environments. Evan has a keen interest in working with neuro-diverse individuals, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis of high-functioning autism. He believes that autism is a spectrum and recognizes that many individuals who fall within the high 80 or low 90 range share more similarities with diagnosed individuals than with neuro-normative individuals. This represents approximately 10-15% of the population.
At Epic Psychotherapy, we prioritize prompt communication, returning calls, emails, or text messages within 24 hours. However, if you are in crisis, we urge you to seek immediate help. As an NDIS provider, we strive to ensure the highest standard of service and encourage you to read our Complaints Management and Resolution System policy document for more information.
