About Batreach Bat Rescue & Rehabilitation
Welcome to BatReach Bat Rescue & Rehabilitation, located in the picturesque town of Kuranda, Australia. Our institution is dedicated to preserving Australia's unique wildlife, with a primary focus on caring for arboreal animals such as bats, possums, and gliders. Additionally, we accept any orphaned or injured native animal in need of assistance.
As a part of Far North Queensland Wildlife Rescue, we are entrusted with the care of various animals that may come our way. For those animals that we are unable to cater to, we work closely with experienced carers to ensure they receive the necessary attention and care.
At BatReach, we take pride in our commitment to public education. Our facility is open to the public five days a week, from 10:30am to 2:30pm, providing a unique opportunity for visitors to learn about these fascinating creatures and their important role in our ecosystem. Please note that we are closed on Saturdays and Mondays, but we are happy to accommodate arranged bookings outside of our regular opening hours.
One of the highlights of visiting BatReach is the chance to observe Australia's four major species of megabats or flying-foxes: the Spectacled, the Black, the Grey-headed, and the Little Red. These magnificent creatures are on display during our opening hours, offering visitors a rare glimpse into their captivating world.
We are proud to play a crucial role in the conservation efforts for Australia's wildlife, and we invite you to join us on this important journey. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, an animal lover, or simply looking for a unique tourist attraction, BatReach Bat Rescue & Rehabilitation is a must-visit destination in Kuranda, Australia.

Reviews of Batreach Bat Rescue & Rehabilitation
"⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ THIS PLACE IS PERMINANTLY CLOSED ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ It would be really nice if you put closed on your website so people didn't make the trip down and be disappointed like we were. It takes 1 minute out of your day to be a decent human and let people know you're not open anymore. It's not hard"
"BatReach is a bat hospital and education centre. Owner Pam cares for an education group of permanent care flying-foxes and rehabilitates many more orphaned pups and injured adults and insectivorous bats and possums and other mammals. When she has very large numbers of animals in care she cannot open for visitors except when specially arranged. However at other times she is open most days between 10am and 2pm and will give a bat talk to visitors who will get to meet a live flying-fox safely up close for the cost of a gold coin donation. Pam relies on volunteers to help with fruit cutting each day and takes on volunteers to assist with daily education and care tasks."
"What a good cause saving these wonderful and pivotal species. Without any assistance from local government and relying on donations these volunteers are doing a wonderful job BUT need our support - please visit, donate and spread the word where and when you can bringing awareness to the cause and educating the public on the importance of Flying Foxes to the Rain forest."
"Volunteers doing an amazing job at saving these wonderful and pivotal species. Not getting any assistance from local government, so relying on donations. In fact the shocking truth is that Cairns council have been destroying these poor creatures habitat! The dedication of this group of volunteers is mind blowing and they are doing great work bringing awareness to the cause and educating the public on the importance of Flying Foxes to the Rainforest. Also, they are making a wonderful effort to change public perception on these animals that have been unfairly villanised by media and entertainment industries!"
