About the Business
Welcome to Lynne Bousfield, a renowned establishment located in Wollongong, on Crown Street, 338-340. As a lawyer and a point of interest, Lynne Bousfield offers a unique approach to mindfulness practices, aimed at developing a practice-based understanding and transforming the mind.
In the early 1970s, Lynne Bousfield, like many young Australians, embarked on a journey to seek a deeper meaning in life, beyond the challenges and hardships experienced personally and witnessed in others. It was during this time that she fortuitously discovered the power of meditation in reducing mental suffering, unlocking the mind's potential, and ultimately leading to happiness. Inspired by this revelation, she set out across Asia, eventually finding herself in BodhGaya, India, where she attended her first insight meditation retreat in 1975. Lynne continued her practice in India, often solitary, but also sought guidance from esteemed teachers in the lineage of Mahasi Sayadaw, such as Acharya Munindra, Ven Rastrapal, and Krishna Barua, upon returning to BodhGaya.
In 1980, Burma opened its doors to those seeking intensive meditation practice, and Lynne took this opportunity to further deepen her understanding. She regularly traveled to Burma, training under the guidance of esteemed Burmese teachers in the lineage, particularly Sayadaw U Pandita and Sayadaw U Kundala until his passing in 2011.
Upon her return to Australia in the early 1980s, Lynne co-founded an organization, initially called the Buddha Dhamma Insight Meditation Society, which later became the Buddha Sasana Association. With the mission to spread the teachings of the lineage, Lynne invited the first Western teachers to Australia, followed by senior ordained teachers from Burma. This dedication and collaboration led to the establishment of the Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre, providing ongoing opportunities for meditation practice.
In addition to her meditation practice, Lynne pursued her academic studies in psychology. She completed her Honors degree in 1986 and later graduated with a Masters Degree in clinical psychology in 1991. In 1992, Lynne joined the Pain Clinic at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she introduced insight meditation as a valuable tool for managing persistent pain and its consequences. Today, Lynne focuses solely on her private practice, offering her expertise and guidance to clients through a video Telehealth platform, addressing a wide range of presenting problems.
