"I had to take my very ill husband to Wollongong ED Sunday 13/8/23 at about 2am. We were greeted by a wonderfully kind & caring Triage Nurse, who patiently & intently listed to my husbands symptoms & assessed his needs. Within a matter of minutes, the Triage Nurse took my husband to a bed, where he was further assessed, by a really kind & caring male nurse & treated with the relevant medications. He was monitored every 15 minutes & was administered additional medications & he was then visited by a very thorough & professional Doctor. Our entire visit took no longer than 3hrs & my husband could not have experienced any better care & respect by the entire ED Team at Wollongong ED. Thank you to all the individual Health Care Workers, who assisted my husband, last Sunday night. You all do an exceptional job, with less than ideal resources & facilities & all of us should be extremely proud of our Illawarra Health Care Workers Thank you all so much."
"Been waiting almost 3 hours even tho there was 3-4 people here when we came in. Sister was discharged from hospital a few days ago to be told to come straight to the ER if she has a headache and here we are waiting for hours too bad if she had a seizure they'd be too late. The nurses are very rude and abrupt too. Asked for panadol as my sister was in a lot of pain and I had to ask a couple times before it was brought out to her and the nurse was just sitting playing on her phone."
"Worst emergency department on the planet. Sorry to say this because its not the nurses and doctors fault but the government who dont put money in the health departments. A fast growing region like Illawarra cant have such a terrible ER. I have a heart condition which it was affecting my entire body. ER kept me on a chair in the waiting area for 26 hours before I was able to get in and get a bed. Best part is they didnt send a cardiologist but a neurologist because I was lighheaded and had fainting symptoms. Spent 2 nights there and a cardiologist never came to see me. After 2 days they sent me home and said I was fine. I wasnt fine. I called a fantastic cardiologist in Sydney Dr Ross Walker and I explained him my symptoms. He is usually booked 9 months ahead but he said it didnt sound good and wanted to see me that day. Thanks to him I dont have a stroke and I am strong now. I was taking the wrong medications and my heart was not functioning properly. If I never Called Dr Walker I am not sure how I would be today. Wollongong emergency department didnt care much and sent me home with a serious heart malfuction which would have caused stroke or even worse. I didnt write this review to winge but to let the government know that they need to do something to improve the health system in the illawara region. Nurses and doctors dont have enough support."
"I'm in Phuket & have Covid. Female, Doctor & Nurse came to my Resort & treated me. Within a couple of hours, I was feeling 80% better. Not to mention, just how lovely they were. In 2022 I got Covid & was taken to Hospital by ambulance, to Wollongong Emergency Department. It was just terrible. They locked me in a room & given no fluids, wasn't allowed to go to the toilet until they were ready & they treated me like a criminal. My Daughter has also had a few terrible experiences in the Emergency Department, with extremely rude nurses. If you don't like your job, don't do it."
"The WORST ER. Waited with my mother for 8 hours only to be told that the doctors that could deliver her CT results had gone home for the night and that she would have to stay in a bed there for the night. I left the hospital expecting her to be checked in and placed in her own bed. At 1am she asked where her bed was when they decided to giver her her results and the all clear to go home, leaving her stranded at 1am waiting for a taxi home. Ridiculous. Little to no Communication. Low staff."
