Reviews of Marsden State School
"Love this school! My daughter was bullied badly at her old school, she had no confidence left as she was always blamed and her bullies got away with everything. Marsden has brought her confidence back and her grades have gone up in only 6mths of being there. It's so nice to see her excited to go to school, and not have the anxiety she used to have everyday."
"Its a great school as a community :) they work hard to make sure the students have everything they need, with the help of parents i.e classrooms, play areas, air con/heaters etc. It is a growing school and has A LOT of students, so if your child has special learning needs, probably not the best school to go to as your child will fall behind. Some kids get it, some kids don't. (one of mine dont lol but it is what it is) Its a growing school with over 1000 students, so if you want a school that is smaller with teachers who can provide proper attention to each childs individual need on a more personal caring level....maybe try another school. The music and sports here are really good :) The teachers as individuals are amazing, but, it is hard trying to get almost 30 students in nearly every class to do the proper work, causing some students to be left on their own to do their work and not understanding well. The teachers do love their job so so much, and try their best to make sure every child is taken care of. Just difficult sometimes with a lot of students is all I'm saying. Prep is probably the BEST year for your child to attend :) Very nurturing in Prep, once they hit year 1 its more serious, some kids lose motivation because of the drastic change, probably the same at other schools, but just putting it out there. They're very strict with attendance and behavior and wont allow your child to attend any special activities if they fall behind a certain percentage of attendance, not sure how they mark our kids behavior, maybe how many times a kid has been sent to the RTC? maybe. which is fine enough, but for some kids that kind of punishment/consequence doesn't work causing a child's self esteem to shrivel even more, so thought I'd let you know. other than that, normal bully range, one of my kids was bullied but her teacher handled it amazingly :) I guess every persons experience is different :) overall ... they work hard to keep our kids safe, which is the most important factor :) good luck in deciding :) Just an update: There are soo many students. Over 1000. So that means over 1000 students trying to get to school, over 1000 families trying to get their kids to school. The school always "encourages" students to get to school on time, but it's impossible when driving to school to drop them off. They need to change the time school starts or allow for a wider time frame where teachers are available so parents can drop their kids off earlier. It's ridiculous. My kids now go to a new school, and their way of handling school drop off and pick up is so much better. They have teachers present to open and close doors to make for a fast transition. Marsden needs to do something because it's affecting children's learning and their attendance and familie are not happy because attendance makes it harder for students to get things or attend activities when it isn't their fault. Marsden State School is so proud of their new buildings but why can't they focus also on something else that needs fixing. So many parents are not happy (if you read comments on their Facebook about arriving on time) My kids are thriving at their new school which says a lot about Marsden. Too many students are falling behind, it's overcrowded and with covid..not good Marsden State school. Please discuss these issues with someone higher if you cannot fix it on your own, there have been reports where children have almost been hit. By cars. This is serious. And a child was hit by a car in 2019. She's okay from the school mentioned .. but the over crowding isn't helping, the rush trying to make it on time or Leave isn't either. I wanted to update this post because after seeing our new school and how they handle their drop off and pick up, I needed to mention this."
"Look elsewhere. Seriously. Especially if you have a child on the spectrum. The only reason I gave one star is because the office ladies are the only saving grace."
"Insensitive staff and principle. My sister broke her leg at school because a student pushed her off the playground and was in crutches for 4 weeks. During this time she was NOT ALLOWED BY THE STAFF AND PRINCIPLE to attend school!!!! All because they could not take her to the toilet and could not be f**** helping her get up a 3 tread staircase to get to class They simply gave her a work book, expecting us to go through it with her. Everyone in the house has work and my mom doesnt know english enough to get her through half the book. How can we trust such a school filled with hard-hearted and inconsiderate human beings?"
