About Sir Stanley Burbury Theatre
Welcome to the Sir Stanley Burbury Theatre, located in the beautiful city of Hobart, Tasmania. As an establishment and point of interest, we offer more than just a venue for studying. We believe in the power of connection and offer a range of events, sports, volunteering opportunities, and more to help you meet new people and expand your horizons.
At the Sir Stanley Burbury Theatre, we take pride in our research excellence, which has a significant impact on Tasmania and beyond. We strive to form deep connections not only within our university community but also with local industries, schools, and everyone who calls our island home.
One of our most notable achievements is our ranking as the #1 university in the world for climate action. For two consecutive years, we have been recognized by the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings as the global leader in taking climate action. We are committed to creating a sustainable future and making a positive impact on our environment.
Located near Tasmania's stunning Blue Lakes, our institution offers a unique learning experience. Whether you're studying a Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness or any other degree, you'll gain a global perspective on the big issues and have the opportunity to explore one of the world's most incredible environments.
Tasmania is known for its outdoor lifestyle, and we embrace this culture wholeheartedly. Our students have access to unrivaled industry opportunities and connections in the renewable energy sector. As the only university in the state, we are at the forefront of hydroelectricity and renewable energy research.
We are constantly reimagining education at our campuses, with a focus on providing a quality education to as many Tasmanians as possible. Our ongoing transformation ensures that we can continue to strengthen and future-proof our ability to deliver excellent education.
Join us for exciting events featuring distinguished speakers, such as the 2023 Tasmanian Australian of the Year and the 2023 Plimsoll Lecture by Dr. Sean Turnell. You can also explore our campuses and get a taste of uni life, hearing firsthand from students and teaching staff about our courses, pathways, and scholarships.
We are proud to announce that four of our early-career researchers have been awarded significant funding from the Australian Research Council. This recognition reflects our commitment to fostering research excellence and innovation.
Music students at our institution have had the incredible opportunity to learn from internationally renowned horn player Stefan Dohr. This is just one example of the exceptional experiences and mentorship available to our students.
We believe that climate change education is essential, and we are dedicated to incorporating it into schooling. As a university, we understand the importance of preparing the next generation to tackle environmental challenges.
We are excited to support Ossa Music Prize-winning pianist Sarah Chick as she embarks on a statewide tour, showcasing the work of women composers. This is just one of the many ways we celebrate and promote diversity and talent within our community.
At the Sir Stanley Burbury Theatre, we recognize the urgency of carbon removal from the atmosphere. While reducing carbon emissions is crucial, we also understand the need to actively remove carbon dioxide to offset emissions and combat climate change.

Reviews of Sir Stanley Burbury Theatre
"big, fancy, intimidating organ and all together far too much seating - I felt like an ant. 10/10"
"A great state of the art infrastructure. This theater hosted my orientation and hopefully will host many more. Also is a famous place around UTAS and will host most big events and big lectures. Lighting is amazing and also the amplified sound system. Has multiple exists, wash rooms, parenting rooms, toilet for people with disabilities. It is a great attraction and flagship theater of the University of Tasmania"
