Reviews of kunanyi / Mount Wellington
"Short drive up the mountain however you have to be skilful driver and not afraid of narrow road sharing with opposite direction. Definitely need to rug up, it was very windy. Recommend to gear up as if you are going to Alps. The view was amazing and we were lucky to arrive there before the rain and fog although is not a sunny day."
"I was fortunate enough to see it on a clear day. Although the road can seem anxiety inducing it was worth the drive, it was beautiful. The summit has toilets on top and an enclosed viewing area because it’s rather chilly. Be prepared and wear warm clothing."
"We hiked up from the springs as the road was closed and it was no mean feat. As snow had fallen closing the road the path was icy, and very very cold. I’d recommend good grip shoes, take plenty of water. As cold as the hike up was the top was near blizzard like conditions with a strong winds able to push you around on the icy surfaces. The view is worth every effort though. The facilities at the top are quite spartan though if there’s room you can take a standing spot on the council approved bus down."
"Mount Wellington was well worth the visit! There was a lot of fog when I visited which prevented being able to see very far, but it was still so beautiful, there was even a bit of snow! The road to the top was narrow, but not too difficult for someone who is comfortable with driving."
