Early Childhood Intervention Service - Tasmania Hobart
About the Business
Welcome to the Early Childhood Intervention Service - Tasmania Hobart! Located at 174 Brooker Avenue in North Hobart, our institution is dedicated to providing comprehensive support and assistance to children with developmental delay and/or disability, from birth to four years old.
As a state-wide service under the Department for Education, Children and Young People, our mission at the Early Childhood Inclusion Service (ECIS) is to partner with families in promoting each child as a capable and competent learner, thriving within inclusive early education and community settings. With bases in Hobart, Launceston, Burnie, and Devonport, we work closely with families and other professionals to maximize the developmental achievements of children.
At ECIS, we understand that families are the primary role models and teachers in a child's learning and development journey. Therefore, we focus on partnering with families to plan for each child's inclusion in education and community settings. Inclusion, to us, means that all children can successfully participate in quality learning programs that acknowledge their individual strengths and interests, providing them with the opportunity to learn and interact with their peers.
We also provide early years inclusion support in educational settings and work alongside the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Early Childhood Approach (ECA), which offers therapeutic intervention for children with developmental delay or disability. By implementing a whole community approach and collaborating with other support services, we strive to deliver better outcomes for children and families.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is committed to creating a more inclusive education system for all children with developmental delay and/or disability. This commitment aligns with Commonwealth legislation and Disability Standards for Education 2005.
In addition to our services, the Department for Education, Children and Young People offers a range of Early Years programs and initiatives, including Launching into Learning, Child and Learning Family Centres, and Libraries. ECIS provides support and planning for inclusion in all these programs, within community settings.
If you have any concerns about your child's development, we encourage you to speak with a doctor, Child Health Nurse, or other health professional. Early support is crucial in providing children with the best chance of achieving their potential.
All children who have turned four years of age by January 1st are eligible for enrolment in our programs. However, exceptions may be made for early entry to kindergarten for students assessed as gifted. Kindergarten participation is highly recommended as it provides an essential foundation year for learning.
Referrals to the Early Childhood Inclusion Service can be made by various individuals, including parents, guardians, health professionals, and educators. We are here to support and guide you through the process.
The newly established Department for Education, Children and Young People, responsible for Child Safety, Youth Justice, Public Education, Out of Home Care, Libraries, and Child and Family Learning Centres, is committed to ensuring the well-being and development of all children.

"Was great until this year (2022) they don't really cater to neurodiverse kids anymore, we got shoved amongst all crowded neurotypical type environments. No different to any other playgroup now."
