"DO NOT believe the 5 star ratings. They are a SCAM from the local guides. Read the 1 star ratings as they are an accurate indication of the quality of the place. The place is a refuge for the less fortunate and a side hustle is the motel. Located in a less desirable part of Geelong. We paid $200 online and the place was locked up when we got there. We spoke to a resident and then we drove away immediately. The owner would not refund any part of the $200. Avoid this a...hole."

"Bloody awful place . Pee on toilet floor, toilet bowl hadn't been cleaned properly. Dead flies and spiders all over room. Stunk of cigarettes even found butts in the room. Bed head covered in dust. Could go on and on"

"I was really surprised with Colonial Lodge. They’re currently in the middle of renovations, the first room I booked was a last minute booking because I’d been lazy and left things too late. The owner and manager (Bob) explained to me it’s not one of his nicer rooms but I wasn’t fussed. As soon as a better room came up he knocked on my door and moved me to a refurbished room. The newer rooms have brand new floor tiles and really nice bathrooms. The new showers are a proper shower with a shower head that covers the whole body and it was fantastic. When it’s all said and done the first room I started in really wasn't as bad as I was expecting and their older bathroom and shower were better than some more expensive motels I’ve stayed at. I’m not looking for much glamour and glitz in a budget motel so the fact the owner is incredibly helpful makes up for any luxury because… When I accidentally bumped my mobile phone off the bedside table and cracked the screen I was unable to take calls or make calls. I had a very important call coming in and was freaking out. Bob the owner let me use his own personal mobile phone to take care of things which stopped me from having any anxiety. The clientele here are mostly tradies doing work in the area so if that’s why you’re looking for a motel with central access to Geelong this will do you fine. It’s also a quick walk to the GMHBA Stadium for a Footy weekend. There are a few good places to eat nearby if you’re on a budget like me, I tried to keep my average spend as low as $10 to just get some basic fresh cooked food. I highly recommend Pucci’s Rosticceria & Caffe for breakfast and lunch. I’m writing this review in Feb 2023 so any negative reviews from the past are irrelevant. If I broke my phone in a luxury resort I highly doubt any staff would have handed me their mobile phone and let me use it for 30 mins. At Colonial Lodge the staff go out of their way to make sure you’re ok and that’s service you can’t easily to buy."

"Well where do I start! Firstly the price of $190 was ludicrous. as soon as we paid and stepped in the room, we wanted a refund. It was unclean, dusty , outdated, had a broken shower head, no shampoo, no milk, cups with business names on them, usually you find white cups that match in a room but anyway. It was noisy with weird patrons walking around the rooms and car park in the middle of the night making groaning noises! The owner barely spoke to us except when we paid, other than that, did not even say goodbye as we left. If I were a female alone , I would not feel safe staying at that motel!"

"Reception was good, held our room which was great as there was a payment issue on booking which we didn't realize. The room was old and very much in need of a makeover. Smelt musty and of old cigarette smoke. The bathroom was clean but again very outdated. The location suited us nicely, a short trip from the Spirit of Tasmania and not on a noisy road. Pub just down the road for a meal if you want."
