Welcome to the Northern Geelong Rental Housing Co-operative! We are a Community Housing Co-operative and a registered housing provider that has been serving the North Geelong area since August 1983. Our mission is to provide low-cost affordable rental housing to individuals and families in need.

As a housing co-operative, we believe in the power of community and member participation. Our members are actively involved in decision-making processes and take significant responsibility for their housing and general living conditions. This level of control over one's circumstances sets us apart from other housing models and large housing associations.

At Northern Geelong Rental Housing Co-operative, we value inclusivity and member participation. We strive to create a welcoming environment where all members feel empowered and supported. We aim to promote and encourage the active involvement of our members in shaping the future of our co-operative.

Our asset spread consists of 58 houses, owned by Homes Victoria. We are responsible for managing these properties, collecting rents, and providing responsive and cyclical maintenance. Our goal is to ensure that our members have access to secure, decent, and affordable housing that meets their needs.

As a member of the International Cooperative Alliance, we adhere to the core principles and values of co-operatives worldwide. These include self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. We believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility, and caring for others.

The management of our co-operative is overseen by the Committee of Management, which is appointed annually by our members. They work closely with other committees, the manager, and staff to reflect the needs and aspirations of our renter members. The Committee of Management is supported by three sub-committees: Asset Management and Development, Policy Working Group, and Finance and Audit.

The Asset Management and Development Sub Committee ensures the proper maintenance and management of our properties. They are also responsible for selecting new renter members when vacancies arise. The Policy Working Group Sub Committee stays updated with changes in government policy and industry standards to ensure our co-operative operates in accordance with guidelines set down by Homes Victoria and the Housing Registrar.
