About The Colour Bug
Welcome to The Colour Bug, a vibrant and unique institution located at 104 Darby Street, Cooks Hill, in the heart of Newcastle City, Australia. As a clothing store, establishment, home goods store, and point of interest, we offer a one-of-a-kind experience that celebrates African colours, fabrics, and its people.
At The Colour Bug, we curate, design, and create bold and colourful clothing, accessories, home decor, and lifestyle products that are bound to spark joy. Our collection is ethically designed and often handmade, reflecting the talent and inspiration of African and Australian women who are our makers.
We take pride in our direct trade relationship with our makers, as it allows us to create sustainable income and skilled employment in their communities. By supporting The Colour Bug, you are not only indulging in unique and vibrant products but also contributing to a positive impact on the lives of these talented individuals.
Our little shopfront in Newcastle offers a cross-cultural connectedness and a chance to experience the vividness and vibrancy of African fabrics. Step into our store, and you'll be transported to a world where colours come alive, and each item tells a story.

As the founder and curator of The Colour Bug, I, Shivangi Maheshwari (aka Shiv), am a traveller by nature, an accountant by profession, and an artist at heart. Born in India and raised in Kenya and Tanzania, I fell in love with the vibrant fabrics that now inspire our collections. It is my pleasure to finally share this passion with all of you.
Visit us at The Colour Bug and immerse yourself in a world of African colours, fabrics, and the stories they hold. Our current opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday - 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday - 10 am to 3 pm. Please note that we are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Thank you for joining us on this colourful journey, and we look forward to bringing a touch of African vibrancy into your life.
