Psychology Clinic, University of Newcastle 130 University Drive, Callaghan, New South Wales 2308
About the Business
Welcome to the Psychology Clinic at the University of Newcastle, located at Callaghan, University Drive, 130. As an establishment dedicated to health and well-being, we serve as a valuable resource for both the community and postgraduate students within the School of Psychological Sciences.
At the Psychology Clinic, we offer a range of assessments and programs utilizing specific psychological interventions tailored to meet the needs of different client groups. These programs are conducted by our highly trained staff and closely supervised postgraduate students who are pursuing their Master of Clinical Psychology degree. All students hold either provisional or full registration as psychologists with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, ensuring the highest standards of care.
Our clinic is designed to cater to adults, families, children, and adolescents, and we provide individual and group programs in comfortable surroundings that guarantee privacy. Each session typically lasts for one hour and takes place away from the main teaching areas.
While we strive to offer high-quality, evidence-based interventions to a wide range of clients, it's important to note that as a training facility, we may be unable to manage clients who require more intensive support. Exclusions include individuals at significant risk of self-harm or harm to others, as well as those presenting with active psychosis symptoms. Additionally, we are unable to see clients who are currently engaged in legal proceedings. However, in cases where we are unable to accept a referral, we will make every effort to identify alternative services that can meet their needs.
Among our programs, we run a 10-session group-based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) program called "Cool Kids" for primary school-aged children with anxiety. This program specifically caters to children between the ages of 8-12 years old and in years 3-6 of primary school. "Cool Kids" runs each school term.
Another program we offer is the START Caring for Carers program, an 8-week individual program that provides support and education on managing changed behavior and coping with caregiver stress. This program can be accessed face-to-face or via telehealth.
In addition to programs, we conduct cognitive and diagnostic assessments for both adults and children. Please note that all cognitive assessments require a written referral from a healthcare professional or education provider, and there may be a substantial waitlist due to high demand for these services.
Referrals are accepted from healthcare and educational professionals, as well as self-referrals from clients themselves. We value collaboration and work closely with referring healthcare professionals throughout the therapy process.
To schedule an appointment or for further inquiries, please contact the clinic directly at (02) 4921 5075 (Callaghan) or (02) 4348 4700 (Ourimbah) from Monday to Friday.
Please note that as a training and research facility, our services cannot be claimed through Medicare or private health funds. However, we do offer a low-income fee reduction for clients who hold a current healthcare card.
Both our Callaghan and Ourimbah clinics remain open throughout the year, except for a two-week closure during the Christmas and New Year period.

Reviews
"Staff are rude and argumentative. It wasn’t until I saw in the news that there is much staff bullying across the university that explained their behaviour."
