Charlestown Terrace Apartments 68 Smith Street, Charlestown, New South Wales 2290

"FOUL. Do not trust the owners of this property. We booked 6 months ahead for 5 adults, had confirmation and arrived to check in to see that they had rebooked the apartment. We had a text telling us that we were to go to another property also owned by Newcastle Executive Apartments. This 'apartment' was putrid and insect infested. Sheets were so stained that we had to strip beds and sleep on towels. It was not fit for habitation. They do not answer the phone or emails. Have had no response whatsoever. Disgraceful."

"Ok where do I start. The reception person when you call is very unfriendly. Asked if we wanted fold out bed I said no. Walked into the town house and the bed was slightly open. Tried to put it back in so we could watch tv, hurt my fingers. Floors are all scratched, walls had holes in them. Garage you can’t park in cause it’s to tight and the code doesn’t work. Mould on top of the kitchen like huge mould. Coming from bathroom upstairs I’m guessing. Bed had sticky sheets, they obviously hadn’t been changed between guests. Very noisy outside due to construction and hooning drivers all hours of the night."

"Having to make three calls and send the details of the guests to multiple phone numbers for covid purposes was the beginning of the issues with this accommodation provider. Despite providing all the details and paying the bond the day before, the code entrance was not given to us until 3pm when check-in was at 2pm. We were parked outside the terrace apartments only to be told we were staying at the Charlestown Executive Apartments a few streets up. This was not mentioned when booking and was not the apartment we booked or the one advertised. On arrival we were greeted by an overflowing bin and the place was not properly cleaned, particularly worrying during a pandemic. Additionally, I was charged 3 different amounts on my credit card supplied. I authorised the $150 bond to be taken out, however 3 authorisations of $151.47, $150 and $200 were taken. The $200 and $150 were refunded, however the $151.47 remained. Upon questioning this charge I was told that it was the payment for the apartment which was taken by mistake. This was in addition to the Agoda payment with a totally different card. So they illegally used my bond card information to charge me the staying fee which was already paid. Avoid this company at all costs. Not worth the hassles."

"The Charlestown Terrace is very deserving of a 5 star review. It is an affordable place for overnight stay but also has lots to offer. The housing is very close to the shopping malls and library which was very convenient for us."

"The place looked nice, but the hygeine and maintenance of the house took away from my stay there. Despite the hefty rates of fines for dirtying the place, there was no clean bedsheets and there was dirty ones in the washing machine. The internet access is limited to less than 200MB per day, per device. The telly didn't have enough channels and the volume wouldn't change. The place looks clean, but if you look in corners, wardrobes and on window sills, there are dead bugs, cobwebs, spiders, etc. Not to mention, all night long, every night, there was something in the ceiling, scratching and tapping, which I imagine was mice."
