Welcome to the Global Institute for Women's Leadership (GIWL) at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra, Australia. Located at Acton, Ellery Crescent, 13, our institution is dedicated to advancing women's leadership and promoting workplace gender equality.

In a world where progress on gender equality is alarmingly slow and even reversing in some places, GIWL aims to create a future where being a woman is not a barrier to becoming a leader in any field. Founded and chaired by the Hon. Julia Gillard AC, our institute brings together rigorous research, practice, and advocacy to understand and address the causes of workplace gender inequality.

At GIWL, we strive to bridge the gap between current diversity and inclusion efforts and research-based effective solutions. We work towards overcoming the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions across sectors and countries, as well as challenging negative perceptions of women leaders influenced by gender biases.

By building a global network of accomplished research partners and collaborating with our sister institute at King's College London, we aim to create a community of individuals focused on advancing women's leadership and workplace gender equality. Our partnership with ANU, as the first international base for GIWL, allows us to concentrate on the Asia-Pacific region.

We are proud to be supported by an international network of Patrons, an Advisory Council, and an Employer's Board, who share our commitment to improving workplace gender equality. Our global team is dedicated to generating evidence and sharing effective practices and solutions from different countries across the globe.

As we work towards our common goal, we acknowledge and celebrate the First Australians, on whose traditional lands we meet and work. Their cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history, and we honor their contributions to our institution.
