About the Business
Welcome to North Ainslie Primary School, a community-based institution located in the inner north of Canberra, Australia. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, we are dedicated to educating the whole child, with a focus on global perspectives and fostering intercultural understanding and respect.
At North Ainslie Primary School, we prioritize strong programs in literacy and numeracy, while also encouraging inquiry-based learning. Our students are taught to think critically and collaborate, challenging themselves to reach their full potential. We proudly instill and celebrate the attributes of the IB Primary Years Program, ensuring that our students are Inquirers, Thinkers, Communicators, Knowledgeable, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective. Alongside the IB Attitudes, our school culture is open, caring, and community-oriented, welcoming all members of our community into our school and classrooms as we work together for the benefit of our students.
Our commitment to community spirit is exemplified through our partnerships with the Board, Parents and Citizens Association (P&C), and volunteer organizations from our area. We have an excellent volunteer program, with community members regularly engaging with our students in various clubs and activities such as the Breakfast Club, Meccano Club, Homework Club, and classroom assistance. Student welfare is of utmost importance to us, and we prioritize positive and caring relationships, implementing restorative practices and a comprehensive behavior management policy.
North Ainslie Primary School has been a proud hub for our community since its establishment in 1958. We have two preschool sites, one at our school and another in Hackett, both offering outstanding play-based programs based on the Early Years Framework. From Kindergarten to Year 6, our classes build upon this foundation, providing inquiry-based learning, literacy and numeracy programs, and excellent arts programs. Our students have access to a visual arts specialist, year 5 and 6 bands, the Music Enrichment Program through the Australian National University, and regular participation in the Northside Spectacular. We also prioritize health and wellbeing through our Healthy Eating Hub, which collaborates with our canteen to offer opportunities for students to work in vegetable gardens and learn about cooking and consuming nutritious food. Additionally, our students participate in French classes and have regular opportunities to engage in sporting events and clinics. Our school proudly promotes diversity and inclusivity, evident through our three Introductory Education Classes and Autism Learning Support Unit.
At North Ainslie Primary School, we strive to meet the unique needs of each child by differentiating the curriculum and offering a wide range of opportunities across various subject areas. We strongly believe in fostering growth in learning for all students and actively collaborate with families to achieve this goal. We welcome inquiries from all families residing within our Priority Enrolment Area (PEA) and want you to know that our door is always open.

"I went to naps preschool-year 6 and I can’t say I liked it, pretty rude teachers and poor education standards but primary school will always have nostalgic memories. My sibling though continues to have issues with the teachers and students and the teachers are very biased. Not good."
"I love this school with my heart and life but worstly i had to move to GCS (Gold creek primary school) its bad there but i hope the year 1 2 3 4 5 6 and kindy have a great time :)"
"I have enjoyed coming to North Ainslie. After year 5 (2018), thats when the teachers became more slack. The food was nice but it took till half time through lunch to actually get it. But yeah it was nice, lots of graffiti and some rude uncontrollable children"
"I was a student at North Ainslie Primary School from 1960 to 1968. Mr O'Connell was the headmaster during that period. On the wall outside his office in a white frame was a picture of a collie dog calling out that it had found a weakened lamb in the snow that needed help, I had later discovered that the picture was titled "Found". I knew this picture well as I had many unscheduled visits to Mr O'Connells office, not all of them of a voluntary (on my part) nature. I did though at one time ask him what the picture was about, he told me then that it was a reminder to him that sometimes young ones get lost and need to be found to be helped. I was never called to his office again for some indiscretion, although I did sometimes call in and just talk to him. I have since traveled the world extensively and visited poignant places like Hiroshima and nothing has brought a tear to my eyes like the time I found this same picture of "Found" and the memories it brought back of my time at North Ainslie Primary School. This picture and the memories it invokes holds a special place in my home."
"My daughter has spent her entire primary school life at North Ainslie. As with all schools there have been some problems but overall the parents and teachers are all very supportive and give the incoming wave of parents each year a sense of community. We have had some very wonderful times and made many wonderful friends over the past 6 years."
