Woods Reserve
About the Business
Welcome to Woods Reserve, a picturesque campground and park located on the banks of Gibraltar Creek in Paddys River, just southwest of Canberra. Nestled in the heart of Ngunnawal Country, this ancient and diverse landscape has been cared for by the Ngunnawal people for thousands of years.
At Woods Reserve, you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse yourself in nature. Whether you're looking for a peaceful camping getaway, a scenic spot for a picnic, or a venue for your next function, Woods Reserve has it all.
Our campground offers overnight camping facilities for both tents and campervans, allowing you to experience the beauty of the surrounding bushland while enjoying the comforts of modern amenities. Please note that camping fees apply.
We understand that your furry friends are part of the family, which is why dogs are welcome on-leash within the campground area. Enjoy leisurely walks with your four-legged companions and explore the stunning natural surroundings together.
Woods Reserve is not only a place for relaxation and recreation but also a hub for wildlife enthusiasts. Share your plant or animal sightings on the Canberra Nature Map or visit the Canberra Birds website to learn more about the diverse birdlife that calls this area home.
As you explore the reserve, you may come across the historic house near the junction of Corin Road and Tidbinbilla Road. This house was once occupied by Edward (Ned) Woods and his wife Julia, who were tenant farmers on Yarralumla Estate. Their story is just one of the many fascinating tales that add to the rich history of this region.
The land surrounding Woods Reserve has been farmed by the Woods family for generations. From 1911, the Woods brothers - Tom, Martin, and John - worked the land in the Gibraltar Creek and Paddys River area, contributing to the agricultural heritage of the region.
In the mid-1970s, Woods Reserve was developed into a camping and picnic area, providing a space for families and friends to come together and enjoy the natural beauty of this tranquil setting. The nearby Namadgi Visitor Centre and Tidbinbilla Visitor Centre are worth a visit for those seeking more information about the area and its history.
Conveniently located just 15 minutes' drive from Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and 7 minutes' drive from Corin Forest, Woods Reserve offers a serene escape within easy reach of Canberra's attractions.
We would like to acknowledge the Ngunnawal people, traditional custodians of the ACT, and pay our respects to their ongoing culture and contributions to the region. We also acknowledge and recognize any other people or families with connections to the lands of the ACT and region.
Come and experience the natural wonders and rich history of Woods Reserve. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or a deeper connection to the land, our campground and park are here to welcome you. Plan your visit today and create memories that will last a lifetime.

"Great base for exploring Tidbinbilla, nearby Gibraltar Falls and the further-afield Namadgi National Park. A ranger comes by to check on campers, so make sure you have a legit booking. Campground has toilets (incl. toilet paper), fire pits, communal covered BBQs, showers and wash-up areas. Bring own firewood, kindling, etc. It’s not the “prettiest” campground – the creek isn’t within view of your campsite, and you’re ensconced in a small valley with not much to look at except trees and other cars. But the facilities are good, and the creek is just a short walk away when you fancy a dip in the cold water. You can also tackle the 40-60min uphill slog to Gibraltar Falls, or get in your car and drive up to the falls (or other sites/walks, as we did)."
"You can see kangaroos. The sound of the waterfall is so soothing. You have toilets, campfire place, table, seats and allocated area to set your camp. The waterfall is at short walking distance. Even if it’s summertime get plenty of blankets and winter clothes"
"The campground is good, and the proximity to Canberra is a major draw card. But, the grass is patchy throughout which makes it not as nice as some of the places out at Murrumbateman. Also, twice in the last 6 weeks when I have been there the toilets have broken. The Ranger said this is an ongoing issue that they are working to fix, but it has no permanent fix in sight. Easy access for all vehicles. No 4wd required."
"Great spot! Only people with online bookings were allowed at the campgrounds. Facilities of fire pits, bbqs, toilets. Firewood is not provided, please bring your own. Bins are not provided. Toilets were not good. However, best for relaxing, you can go hiking at the top and enjoy rainwaters. Amazing views!"
"Really nice little camp ground that's surprisingly close to the city. Almost took longer to pack than it did to get there. Great spot though, facilities (showers/toilets/BBQ) are there if you need them. Great little hiking track to the falls too. Fantastic spot if you're just starting to get into camping."
