Reviews
"My Children have been attending the parent toddler program since 2017 and now have started cycle 1. So far we are loving the school, teachers and the environment. I am a bit disappointed with all the poor reviews however will update my review later if there are any issues (hopefully not). Just updating my review: my oldest has been attending CMS now for 2 years cycle 1. We still love the school, the environment, teachers and community. It's such a great little school."
"Our family is so so happy with Canberra Montessori. The staff work so hard to offer a hugely respectful and empowering environment for children - and they succeed! They bring the Montessori principles to life of course, but also show so much nurturing commitment to the children. It's a small school so it has that amazing community vibe where everyone knows everyone, and every week I'm blown away by the leadership opportunities that are given to the students as they grow and develop. Communication has really come a long way - it was quite limited when we first came to the school in early 2017 but is much more open and frequent now which is great. If you're looking for respectful and empowering education for your child this is definitely the place."
"Our son has been attending Canberra Montessori School since he was 18 months old, initially through the Parent Toddler Program and is now one year into Cycle 1. He absolutely loves the school, his teacher and his friends. We love the beautiful environment and the unique approach to learning. Our son is so excited to go to school each day and learn new things. A lot of people think Montessori is a "hippy school" that certainly isn't true. It is very focused on maths, English and geography as well as life skills such as cleaning, preparing food and gardening. We couldn't ask for a better experience and look forward to sending our youngest there soon too. Highly recommend interested parents do a tour of the school, available on Wednesday mornings."
"We were originally curious in the school as so many great and successful people seem to have gone to Montessori schools (google and amazon founders, Beyonce, Taylor Swift? ..). We came here as this is the only authentic Montessori school in Canberra. Our child has been attending the school for a year and participated in the toddler program before that. It was immediately a good fit for her, but the classrooms, materials and activities are also so beautiful. She loves it, is thriving and pleasantly surprises us with all the things she's learning and how capable she is -- she helps us clean! She's also got an incredible group of little friends who we look forward to spending time with years in to the future. The community in the school is really proactive. Our classroom teacher is so smart and cares so much, we're so lucky. She's an amazing person for our daughter to be taught by, combined with being in such a great learning environment we are so delighted and couldn't imagine her going to school anywhere else."
"Canberra Montessori is for children who have an inquiring mind and are proactive in their learning attitude. It's a school where your child can follow their interests under the guidance of teachers who make sure they meet expected mainstream outcomes for their age. The teachers are approachable and interested in your child's individual progress. Our grade 1 boy is reading grade five books and doing grade four maths. He loves science and seeing how things work. He is making excellent progress. Socially he has a great set of friends. He is soaring at Canberra Montessori where he can go at his own pace. It's a social school with many opportunities for play dates and parent contact which is very important if you have moved to Canberra from another state or country. They have a good variety of clubs including chess, craft clubs, Korean drumming and mandarin. We are looking forward to joining the school's Equestrian team next year. The Montessori method of teaching is excellent. The 'new' methods of teaching now being proposed and brought into mainstream schools were developed by Montessori 100 years ago."
