Canberra Walk in Aviary
About the Business
Welcome to the Canberra Walk in Aviary, a must-visit establishment and popular tourist attraction located at O'Hanlon Place in Nicholls, Australia. This enchanting 1000 square metre walk-in aviary is privately owned and offers a unique opportunity to observe, photograph, and interact with a wide variety of friendly free-flying birds.
Our dedicated team developed the aviary as a way to share their passion for birds and provide visitors with an immersive and interactive experience. As you explore the aviary, you'll be delighted by approximately 500 birds from over 60 different species, including parrots, finches, doves, and quail, both from Australia and around the world.
To enhance your visit, we provide each visitor with a small plate of food and a tub of mealworms to feed the birds. While not all birds may approach you, some may land on your hand or shoulder, creating unforgettable moments and photo opportunities.
We understand the importance of family, which is why children under four years old can accompany a full fare paying adult free of charge. However, please note that there are limits to the number of children under four per adult. We also recommend booking online before your visit, although it is not essential. By booking in advance, you can ensure entry into the aviary upon arrival.
As an outdoor activity, we encourage you to check the weather forecast for the day of your visit, as we may close on wet or extremely hot days to ensure the safety and comfort of our birds and visitors. Additionally, we have implemented a maximum capacity of 60 people to comply with current restrictions.
Located in the picturesque Gold Creek Village, just off the Barton Highway, the aviary is easily accessible from the Canberra City Centre, approximately a 20-minute drive away. You'll find our entrance behind the Green Gold Garden Centre in O'Hanlon Place.
For those looking to give the gift of a unique experience, we offer Gift Certificates and Annual Passes, which can be purchased online. And if you're planning to explore more of Gold Creek Village, don't forget to check out the Gold Creek Adventure Four-in-One Attractions pass for additional savings.
At the Canberra Walk in Aviary, our mission is to foster a deep appreciation for birds and their natural habitats. Come and join us in celebrating the beauty and diversity of these incredible creatures. The birds share our world, and we invite you to share in theirs.

Reviews
"Lovely experience! Beautifully cared for birds with staff that obviously love their animals very much. I loved being able to feed them a variety of foods and the lorikeets were funny and rambunctious little scamps as always. I would love to visit again. :)"
"Very lovely place when you can feed the birds and enjoy a peaceful moments .. it needs to be a little bigger with more different birds"
"I had an absolute blast at this bird aviary! Seriously, it was one of the best ones I've ever been to. The staff there were super nice and they even let us hold a baby chicken. The birds were a riot! They were friendly, silly, and just plain goofy. It was such a fun experience overall!"
"Small place for young kids to run about. The birds were very friendly and my 2 and 5 year old had a blast. Would spend just over half an hour here unless you really like birds."
"After reading other reviews we were prepared for the aviary to be small and to take it slow. In the end my young kids and I spent an hour feeding various birds and they really enjoyed it. We had a "Golden Creek adventure pass" so it was much more affordable. Otherwise you are looking at around $50 for a family pass at the time of our visit. Very accessible for prams/wheelchairs. Loads of free parking available. Surrounded by nearby cafes."
