About Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve
Welcome to Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve, a stunning establishment located in the Australian Capital Territory. As part of the Canberra Nature Park series, this 94-hectare park is one of the thirty-three protected areas in and around Canberra. From bushland hills to lowland native grassland, Bruce Ridge offers a diverse range of natural landscapes.
Situated less than five kilometers northwest of the Canberra Civic Centre, Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve is bordered by O'Connor Ridge Nature Reserve to the East, Gossan Hill Nature Reserve to the Northwest, and Black Mountain to the South. This prime location allows visitors to easily access the reserve and immerse themselves in its beauty.
Within the reserve, you'll discover significant natural values and the preservation of several threatened flora species and vegetation communities. Despite its proximity to an urban center, Bruce Ridge maintains its ecological integrity, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the ACT Parks and Conservation Service.
For outdoor enthusiasts, Bruce Ridge Nature Park offers a haven for walking and running. Simple wire fences enclose the park, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. However, please note that motorbikes are not permitted within the reserve. Additionally, the park features two reservoirs as part of ACT Electricity and Water's supply network.
While Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve is a cherished tourist attraction, it has faced challenges from illicit mountain bike trail building. These activities threaten wildlife habitat, rare flora communities, and sensitive indigenous sites. To address this issue, a comprehensive assessment of the reserve's ecological values was conducted, followed by a community consultation process.
This collaborative effort led to the establishment of the Friends of Bruce Ridge (FoBR) Nature Park Group, working alongside the ACT Parks and Conservation Service to sustain this precious nature park. Trail restoration works are currently underway, with professional input from ACT Government ecologists and the International Mountain Biking Association.
We invite you to explore Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve and witness the ongoing transformation brought about by these conservation efforts. While the project's full outcome will take time, the benefits for safety, environment, and social engagement are already apparent. If you come across any issues during your visit, please notify ACT Parks at Fix My Street.

Reviews of Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve
"Great spot for a hike or casual mountain bike ride. Very accessible and well signposted. The only downside is the noise from the main road running next to it... But given how close to the city this is it's a beautiful spot. Well worth a walk or ride around, the trails are all well documented on trailforks,"
"Very good trail for beginner. I enjoyed the ride and trails so perfectly maintained"
"Beautiful trails, stunning views and awesome place to relax and unwind. Perfect trails for a newbie mountain biker, and for the advanced too!"
"Great place to walk a dog (on lead). Lots of kangaroos & a few rabbits left after the last cull. Beautiful views to the city and parliament house. Best of all a quick walk or cycle from Dryandra St O'Connor through to the AIS."
