About Centenary Hospital for Women and Children
Welcome to the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children (CHWC), located on the Canberra Hospital Campus in the Australian Capital Territory. Our establishment is a renowned health institution and a prominent point of interest in the area.
You can easily spot our multi-story brown building with vibrant striped panels at the main entrance, situated on the corner of Gilmore Crescent and Hospital Road. To guide you to the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children, keep an eye out for The Wayfinder statue of an owl and a fish near the entrance on Hospital Road.
Convenient drop-off and pick-up options are available at the entrance, and the Canberra Hospital Courtesy Bus stops here every 15 minutes. For longer stays, we recommend using either the Yamba Drive South or the Southern multi-story car parks. The Southern multi-story car park, located on Bateson Road, is a large grey and orange car park visible from Yamba Drive and Hindmarsh Drive. It offers free undercover parking that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Pedestrian access to the main hospital is via Level 2, while pedestrian access to the Canberra Region Cancer Centre and Building 3 Eye Clinic (Ophthalmology) is via Level 1. If you need access to the Adult Mental Health Unit, please use Level 4. Our Courtesy Bus is available to transport you to any of the hospital entry points.
If you are arriving by bus, the Belconnen Bus Interchange is conveniently located on the intersection of Cohen Street and Lathlain Street. It is approximately 160 meters from platform 1 to Belconnen Community Health Centre, Walk-in Centre, and Opioid Treatment Service. Please note that you will need to cross a couple of roads.
For patient and visitor parking, levels 1, 2, and 3 of the multi-story car park off Mary Potter Circuit are available. This parking area is approximately 180 meters and a 2-minute walk to the main entrance, and approximately 400 meters and a 4-minute walk to the Emergency Department of the North Canberra Hospital. There is no charge for parking, and the car park is open 24 hours a day. You can choose from 2, 4, and 6-hour parking options.
Public parking is also available on Menindee Drive, directly in front of the main entrance. This parking area offers four accessible car parks.
If you are visiting Clare Holland House, the bus stop on Russell Drive is the closest option. It is about a 4-minute and 350-meter walk to the entrance.

Reviews of Centenary Hospital for Women and Children
"Total abdominal hysterectomy. Far as I can tell surgery went fine. Everything that happened after that was traumatic, cruel, nasty, negligent, torturous, and basically horrific. Incorrect information given & no communication between staff other than them laughing at patients extreme pain in the corridor. Nurse walked in 13 hours after I woke from op & demanded I “get up & shower because you have to go home today”. That was not the plan at all. I was confused & scared the whole time, I felt very unsafe. It was horrific. Don’t go there if you can possibly avoid it."
"5 stars to all the teams at Centenary hospital. Had our first baby a month ago. I was so nervous about labour and delivery but everything went smooth. Each and every staff member were experienced and kind. A special thanks to Tanya and Madi for helping me deliver my bub and to all the doctors as well.A very positive birth experience with an amazing team. I was looked after very well.Thank you all for your hard work!"
"Helena from the pathology today made my stress fly away. She is so good with teens like me stressed and getting their needles. But with her help I had the best experience at the Canberra hospital. Because I come from Wagga Wagga NSW you probably won't get as much luck as you can with Helena. She even offered to lay the chair back as well as the leg rest. Man I really felt like this was just going into a room having a general conversation and not worrying about the unpleasant scenes around you. If I could give 10 stars for this review this would be a definite yes. Thank you Helena for all your support today and hope to see you in nexts blood test. Kind regards. Will"
"Dear Midwives of the Hospital, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional service provided during my partner's delivery. The facilities and the care given were simply superb, but what truly made the experience remarkable was the exceptional care provided by our midwife, Jen. From the moment we met Jen, we knew we were in good hands. She was incredibly patient, attentive, and caring throughout the entire process. Even though the labor lasted for an entire day, Jen remained focused and committed to ensuring a safe and smooth delivery. Jen's expertise and skill were evident from the moment she arrived. She made my partner feel comfortable and at ease during a challenging and emotional time. She communicated effectively and provided constant reassurance, which helped to alleviate our anxieties and fears. Throughout the labor and delivery, Jen was attentive to my partner's needs and provided excellent care. She was meticulous in her attention to detail, making sure that everything was done with precision and care. We felt incredibly honored and privileged to have Jen by our side during this life-changing experience. Overall, we cannot thank the midwives of the hospital enough for their exceptional care and service. But a special thank you goes to Jen for her remarkable expertise, skill, and care. She made such a difficult experience look easy, and we are forever grateful. Thank you again for everything."
