Our institution has a rich history, originally founded by Dr. Roberta Reid as the Avenue Road vet clinic. Dr. Reid built the first purpose-built veterinary practice in South Australia at 50 Avenue Road Glynde, catering to both small and large animals. Back then, the clinic was located on a dirt track, and people would bring their horses to the side door, always greeted by Dr. Reid's beloved Great Danes.

Over the years, the practice was passed on to Dr. Van Gynn, who worked at the same location for many years. It was later sold and run by Dr. Mellvile Smith for a short time. Our esteemed Dr. Kylie Jopson joined the clinic on May 18, 1998, and has since become an integral part of our team. She fondly remembers her first client, a beautiful Golden Retriever named Chelsea, owned by the dignified Mrs. Philips. Dr. Jopson and Mrs. Philips formed a lasting friendship, and Dr. Jopson became her trusted veterinarian for many years.

In December 2001, Dr. Kylie Jopson became a part-owner of the clinic, alongside Dr. John Carruthers, and relocated the practice to 65 Portrush Road, Payneham. The clinic was then renamed Payneham Veterinary Centre. In December 2019, Dr. Jopson and Dr. Carruthers moved the clinic to its present location, a purpose-built facility.

Today, we are happily settled into our state-of-the-art clinic and are grateful to be working with a team of exceptional veterinarians. One of our esteemed vets is Dr. Lucy, who joined Payneham Vet Centre in February 2021 after graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2014. Dr. Lucy has a strong interest in medical management of cases and specializes in imaging, particularly ultrasound. She grew up on a farm and developed a passion for animals, which led her to pursue a career in veterinary care.

Another valued member of our team is Dr. Sarah, who graduated with honors from the University of Melbourne in 1992. Dr. Sarah has worked in various small animal practices around Adelaide and has experience in emergency care, teaching, and working with animal welfare organizations. She joined Payneham Vet Centre in April 2019 and balances her time between caring for animals and her own family.
