"I recently bought some colorful stickers for my son’s school computer at a store where I had previously spent hundreds of dollars on clothes over the past three months. However, ten minutes after the purchase, I discovered that all 25 stickers in the sealed bag contained veiled profanity and were unsuitable for my intended purpose. I returned to the store within 10 minutes with the sealed stickers and receipt in hand, but was told that there would be no refund for a change of mind. I explained politely that this was not a change of mind, but rather an issue with the product not fitting our purpose. Despite this, I was denied the $20 refund as the staff , that seemed more concerned about trying on their inventory than solving a problem. MOre of a car boot customer service mentality. The change of mind provision within the ACCC consumer protection laws is fallible and in most cases, a common sense approach between the retailer and consumer is either explicitly stated or implicitly negotiated. In this case, a little common sense by the staff could have gone a long way in building customer loyalty. Unfortunately, my son and I will no longer be shopping at this store. Every dollar matters to me as much as it does to retailers, and it’s disappointing that an obvious mistake could not be resolved with a little common sense."
