About the Business
Welcome to the Centre for Crop and Disease Management located in Bentley, Western Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, our institution is dedicated to reducing the impact of crop disease in the Australian grains industry.
At the Centre for Crop and Disease Management, we are committed to gaining a better understanding of fungicide resistance across Australia. Through our research, we are developing management strategies to help growers effectively deal with this issue. We believe that by equipping farmers with the knowledge and tools to combat fungicide resistance, we can safeguard the future of the grains industry.
One of our key focuses is on improving genetic resistance in barley and wheat against five major crop diseases. We generate resources for breeders to develop resistant varieties, ensuring that our crops are better equipped to withstand these diseases. By investing in genetic resistance, we are working towards a more sustainable and resilient grains industry.
In addition to barley and wheat, we are also identifying sources of genetic resistance to canola and pulse diseases. By improving management strategies and promoting the adoption of resistant varieties, we aim to enhance the rotation systems and overall health of these crops.
Our research extends beyond genetics and resistance. We are dedicated to improving the return on agribusiness investment through the use of genomics and data-driven solutions. By understanding the impact of pathogens on crop performance, we can provide farmers with long-term solutions for managing their crops and major pathogens. This research is made possible through co-investment by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) and Curtin University.
Since our establishment in 2014, the Centre for Crop and Disease Management has made significant discoveries that have benefited growers, breeders, agronomists, and life science companies. Our research has helped these stakeholders adapt and improve the profitability and sustainability of Australian cropping systems. Our focus areas include fungicide resistance, genetics, agronomy, and agribusiness research.
We invite you to explore our website and learn more about the important work we do at the Centre for Crop and Disease Management. Together, we can make a difference in reducing the impact of crop disease and ensuring a prosperous future for the Australian grains industry.
