Welcome to the National Centre for Sleep Health Services Research, located at Bedford Park, Laffer Drive, 5 in Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, our institution is dedicated to providing world-class research in the field of sleep health. We achieve this through multidisciplinary research and industry partnerships with leading health professionals and researchers, both nationally and internationally.

In December 2014, the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health was recognized as a Flinders Centre of Research Excellence (AISH FCRE). This acknowledgement formalizes the strong existing relationships between AISH, Flinders University, and the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network.

At the National Centre for Sleep Health Services Research, we understand the importance of healthy sleep for overall physical and mental well-being. Sleep disorders and sleep restriction, whether voluntary or societal-driven, have a significant negative impact on health, productivity, and safety in Australia and around the world. In fact, the direct and indirect economic cost of just two common sleep disorders, obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia, is estimated to be over $5 billion per year in Australia alone.

Unfortunately, current health services and policies often fail to effectively manage these prevalent disorders due to inadequate training and resources for primary care professionals in sleep management. Additionally, there is an over-reliance on specialist services, complex and costly sleep apnea testing, and unregulated industry practices.

Our team at the National Centre for Sleep Health Services Research aims to gather evidence on community care for individuals with sleep disorders. We also investigate new practical approaches to improving sleep health service delivery in primary care settings, both in Australia and internationally. This valuable information will be incorporated into evidence-based primary care practice guidelines and implemented through policy initiatives where appropriate.
