Welcome to Kimberley Dental Team Ltd, located at The Avenue, Midland, Australia. Founded in May 2009 by Jan and John Owen, Kimberley Dental Team Ltd is a renowned establishment in the field of oral health.

The journey of Kimberley Dental Team Ltd began when Dr. John Owen and his wife Jan, a dental nurse and dental health educator, visited Halls Creek in May 2009. Jan's involvement with the choir Madjitil Moorna: Singers of Aboriginal songs led them to Halls Creek, where they were invited by a local school teacher, Doreen Green, to provide dental care and education to the children of Halls Creek District High School. The lack of dental therapy services in the area had resulted in many children suffering from dental diseases and pain.

Witnessing the stark inequality in dental healthcare compared to metropolitan areas like Perth, Jan and John were inspired to establish the Kimberley Dental Team (KDT). Their aim was to create a team of dedicated dental health professionals who could enhance existing services and improve dental health literacy in underserved communities. The model for KDT was initially inspired by the successful Filling the Gap volunteer program operating in North Queensland.

Please note that due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, KDT Southern sessions have been temporarily discontinued. However, the commitment of Kimberley Dental Team to help those disadvantaged by the lack of dental services has given rise to KDT Southern. When not on their regular trips to the Kimberley region, KDT Southern and teams of KDT volunteers provide innovative clinical treatments and oral health education to various marginalized groups. This includes homeless adults, families, and young people, as well as Forgotten Australians who have suffered from institutional care during their childhood. Additionally, KDT Southern reaches out to people living in mental health hostels, ensuring that everyone has access to quality dental care.

We warmly welcome all forms of involvement in our mission. Whether you are a healthcare professional interested in providing services during our visits to the Kimberley region or KDT Southern, or if you would like to offer support and assistance in management, IT, and planning offsite, we greatly appreciate your contribution. Donations of equipment, materials, and dental health education supplies such as toothbrushes are also highly valued, as well as assistance with accommodation and transport.
