About Stebonheath Park
Welcome to Stebonheath Park, a hidden gem located in Andrews Farm, South Australia. As one of the City of Playford's most cherished establishments, Stebonheath Park offers a unique experience for visitors of all ages.
One of the highlights of Stebonheath Park is its stunning wetlands, spanning an impressive 3.6 hectares. With picturesque boardwalks and bridges, this area provides the perfect vantage point to admire the park's beauty and the breathtaking views of the northern Mount Lofty Ranges. As you explore the wetlands, you may encounter a variety of native ducks and other water birds, thriving on a diet of aquatic plants, seeds, grasses, and insects.
We kindly ask visitors to refrain from feeding the ducks and birds, as many human foods, including bread, can be harmful to their health. Uneaten food can also contaminate the water and attract vermin and foxes to the area. Instead, we encourage you to enjoy observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
For families with children, Stebonheath Park boasts not one, but three distinct playgrounds in close proximity to each other. Whether you have a toddler, a young child, or an adventurous older kid, there is a playground to suit every age and preference. If you're feeling more adventurous, bring along your BMX bike and take on the ramps and dirt track for an exhilarating experience.
Stebonheath Park is also home to the Stolen Generation Memorial and Healing Garden, a place of remembrance, reflection, and respect towards Aboriginal people and their families and communities. Inspired by the historic 'Apology' to the Stolen Generations by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in 2008, the Circle of Hope, a support group for Stolen Generation survivors, initiated the establishment of this garden. The artwork created by the Circle of Hope and other members of the Stolen Generations can be seen throughout the garden, serving as a powerful testament to their experiences.
This memorial garden not only serves as a local acknowledgment of the Stolen Generation's impact on both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities in northern Adelaide but also acts as an educational resource, promoting cross-cultural respect and understanding in South Australia. The City of Playford takes great pride in providing a place of remembrance, reflection, and respect for the entire community, and aims to enrich the cultural diversity of South Australia.
The Stolen Generation Memorial and Healing Garden has garnered support from various programs and organizations, highlighting its significance and importance in the community. We invite you to visit Stebonheath Park and immerse yourself in the natural beauty, vibrant playgrounds, and the profound history and culture represented by the Stolen Generation Memorial and Healing Garden.
Reviews of Stebonheath Park
"Gorgeous park with a huge play area, lots of undercover seating and a beautiful walking trail"
"Good park for 3 yr olds but this time of the year in summer needs shade cloth or something over the equipment as it get hot for the kids and can only use in the early morn. The slippery slide was hot by 10am, Dec month.. Most playgrounds have shade nowadays, so I'm not sure why this is not done."
"I go there every Saturday for Parkrun, this event has the name of Stebonheath. The park is a delightful very well maintained area with two unisex toilets that are well maintained and cleaned on a very regular basis. Under shade there are three electric BBQ's available for use for free with seating for about 10 per BBQ. There is a wonderful playground available for use. Dogs are welcomed and dog poo bags are available, there is also a water fountain that also has access for dogs. Walking trails and bicycle trails wind around the park area. All the features of this park is available for use for free. There is also two car parks, providing parking for about 25 to 35 cars. Playford Council should be congratulated for the park. A lot of work went in to planning it, there are a couple of lakes where local students from different schools regularly test the water quality as part of their curriculums. All in all, this is a very good park and I recommend it as somewhere to take the family for a day of fun."
"We frequent this park for duck feeds but it's a nice walk that can extend down the Smith Creek Trail or opposite direction to Petherton Rd. Playground, toilets, drinking water, bbqs, shaded seating, tribute to the stolen generation and dog park. Watch out for dog droppings as it seems they're often not picked up after here."
"I think this is a great wetlands area. I found a number of bird species there, that surprised me. Great for the kids when they come out of school to be able to walk through there too."
