One of our standout offerings is traditional Shotokan Karate, taught by Sensei Matt Smith, a highly skilled 3rd Dan JKA practitioner.

As part of JKA Karate Adelaide, we are under the guidance of the esteemed Shihan Jim Wood MBE, a 7th Dan JKA. Joining our institution means you can gain valuable skills, achieve belts, learn self-defense techniques, and even have the opportunity to compete in karate tournaments. Karate is not only a martial art but also a sport, and participating in it can greatly enhance your confidence, strength, coordination, self-discipline, and overall well-being.

Our JKA Christies Beach Karate dojo is conveniently located within the 24-hour BodySmith Fitness Centre, giving our members access to practice in their own time, in addition to our instructed classes. We also actively participate in seminars with the larger karate community, training alongside national and international instructors, ensuring that our standards remain exceptionally high.

For those starting their karate journey, we have a special beginner package that covers all the essentials you need to achieve your first major karate goal and progress through your first grading to earn your first colored belt. We understand that karate involves certain expenses such as training fees, a dogi (uniform), membership and insurance, and grading examiner fees. That's why our beginner package takes care of everything, so there are no surprises until you're fully committed and sold on the benefits of karate.

Karate is not just about learning self-defense skills; it also teaches control, awareness, respect, temperament, and maturity. These qualities are essential for effectively utilizing the skills you acquire and building character that will benefit your life beyond the dojo. At JKA Karate Christies Beach, students have the opportunity to progress all the way to black belt and beyond, earning internationally recognized JKA grades in Shotokan Karate. Our instruction is led by the highly experienced David Rigby Sensei, who holds a 5th Dan JKA and 5th Dan AKF.
