Spanning approximately 67 hectares, the Piney Lakes Reserve is a natural oasis comprising of 50 hectares of pristine bushland and wetland environments, as well as 17 hectares of beautifully developed parkland. Nestled to the north of Leach Highway and to the east of Murdoch Drive, this reserve offers a picturesque open space that is perfect for hosting large functions and unforgettable wedding ceremonies.
One of the highlights of the Piney Lakes Reserve is the Piney Lakes Sensory Play Park. Designed to engage and stimulate the senses, this park provides a unique and inclusive play experience for visitors of all ages. From sensory gardens to interactive water features, children and adults alike can immerse themselves in a world of exploration and discovery.
In addition to the sensory playground, the Piney Lakes Reserve offers several walking trails that allow you to connect with nature and uncover the rich biodiversity of the area. As you stroll along these trails, you will have the opportunity to learn about the fascinating Aboriginal history of Piney Lakes and gain insights into the cultural significance of this site for Noongar women. The Bidi Katitjiny Aboriginal Women’s Trail, in particular, pays homage to the rituals and education that took place here before European settlement.
The journey through Piney Lakes Reserve is an invitation to delve into its history, embrace Noongar culture, and fully appreciate the unique natural environment that Perth has to offer. To aid in your exploration, we have provided a self-guided tour brochure that encompasses the Bidi Katitjiny Aboriginal Women’s Trail and the Wetland Walk Trail. Along these trails, you will encounter seven stop points with informative signage that will enrich your understanding of the reserve's heritage.
When visiting the reserve, we recommend wearing long pants, enclosed shoes, and long sleeves, as mosquitoes can be more common near the wetlands, and some plants may have spiky foliage. However, if you are unable to visit in person, we invite you to embark on a virtual tour that showcases all the wonders of Piney Lakes Reserve, from its playgrounds to its walking trails and the presence of unique and endangered species.
Beyond its natural beauty, Piney Lakes Reserve is also an ideal venue for hosting special events. With a capacity for up to 200 guests for wedding ceremonies and up to 300 guests for large functions such as gatherings, family reunions, and children's birthday parties, this reserve offers a memorable setting for any occasion. Please note that for large public events, an approved Event Application is required to secure a spot on City of Melville reserves.
Before you plan your visit, please be aware of the prohibited items and activities within the reserve. We kindly ask that you respect the rules and regulations set forth by the City of Melville to ensure the preservation and enjoyment of this natural gem.
