Reviews of Winthrop Primary School
"My professional opinion There are staff to help the teachers/students but all they would do is look over your shoulder and make you tense because they always have a way to do things "better." The bullying was very bad due to teachers not doing anything about it, only intervening if it gets physical. I was excluded because of my race by other classmates had sychological trauma that I never forget from a classmate. This eventually lead to me getting depression and social anxiety problems. When I went into high school and got a fresh start, that was the best. As I read other reviews, I see that there was a saving of money. To the end of my primary school years a large metal structure or cover was built over a basketball court that would be so expensive it would at less cost $10000 to build and wasn't ever that protective against rain under it. The use of ipad is bad because they use to use laptops but change because it was better for the school not the students, but there were restrictions during school time if you were wondering. Year 6 camp was pretty lavish as we went to Busselton jetty and a camp site at Busselton went to the caves, 1 km run at 6am everyday, ninja warrior course, beach, best ice cream in Australia. I was awarded the endeavour award that takes about perseverance, dedication, inner strength, self discipline and personal understanding at which none of those I had and I didn't deserve that award but got it because I studied for the first time and got a a good mark for one test. Also someone got 7 awards but she deserved those awards. I wouldn't even consider my child or to recommend yours to go to this school, and I am happy in leeming senior high school with a couple of friends."
"If you want a school that the only thing it cares about is cost-saving at the expense of the children best interest, using Covid as an excuse for cancelling activities and events (we all know the real reason is cost cutting!), ignore and dislike parents, and run the school like a privatised for profit organisation, this is definitely the school for you! Unjustifiable high number staff employed in the leadership team (non teaching staff) who do nothing apart from finding ways to cut cost at the expense of the children learning journey and skill development. I would not recommend sending your children to this school. You will only get disappointment."
"Leadership team is very disorganised, biased and only focuses on saving money. The front office staff is friendly and helpful."
"I went to primary school here, and now that I'm about the graduate high school I've been thinking about primary school a lot. This school had great staff in the upper years and the memories from Years 4 to 6 are ones I will treasure. However, I will be calling out Mrs Davies as I am thoroughly disappointed to see she is still employed here. When she was my teacher in Year 3, I was being bullied by a fellow student. I tried to solve it myself and when I couldn't, I went up to her to ask for her help and she did nothing. She told me that I was being 'too sensitive' and to use this experience to 'learn to toughen up'. She used the bully's circumstances as an excuse for their behaviour and offered me no support at all. I still remember my bully laughing at me from behind Mrs Davies as the teacher that I once trusted told me I was being too emotional. I am angered to this day as to how she treated me and dread to think that she has done nothing to help other students at this school when they were in a similar situation. Thank you Mrs Davies, you inadvertently aided in my severe depression and anxiety because you did nothing to stop another student from slowly breaking me down everyday until I thought I was nothing. Pretty much every other teacher I had was great though, especially Mrs Moriarty and Ms Stanton :)"
"This is an amazing school, we celebrate all cultures, discourages bullying and all teachers set an amazing example. I wouldn't have wanted to go to a different school, I'm so happy I get to learn here."
