About SA Centre for Economic Studies
Welcome to the SA Centre for Economic Studies, located at 10 Pulteney Street in Adelaide, Australia. As a self-funding applied research unit of the University of Adelaide, we have been at the forefront of economic analysis and public policy research since our establishment in 1982.
Our primary role is to review, research, and report on economic and public policy issues that are relevant not only to South Australia but also to the entire nation. We strive to enhance the quality of analysis and promote informed debate on critical issues within the state, establishing ourselves as a leading economic research center in Australia.
At the SA Centre for Economic Studies, we offer specialist economic research and advisory services to both private sector and government clients on a fee-for-service basis. Our independent research fund supports our research capacity, enabling us to contribute to the public policy debate effectively.
For our members, we provide regular economic briefing reports that offer a detailed assessment of economic conditions and the outlook for both Australia and South Australia. Additionally, we curate a selection of indicators specifically for South Australia, providing a snapshot of recent economic and social trends in the state.
Our applied research focuses on issues that are crucial for regional and national economic growth and development. We strive to deliver independent, evidence-based research that informs decision-making and drives positive change.
According to our latest Economic Briefing Report, while aggregate spending in South Australia has experienced a slowdown due to cost of living pressures, the state has made a remarkable recovery from the pandemic. Many sectors of the economy are currently operating at high levels of capacity. Our report also predicts that the SA economy will continue to expand in the new year, albeit at a slower pace. Factors such as tighter financial conditions, cost of living pressures, and high energy prices are expected to have a dampening influence on growth in 2023.
In our pursuit of addressing existing skills shortages within Australia, we have recently published a research paper that explores potential policy reforms to incentivize Age Pensioners to participate in the labor force. By increasing the labor force participation of Age Pensioners, we aim to tackle the skills gap and promote a more inclusive and productive economy.
We invite you to explore our website and discover the valuable resources, reports, and research papers we have to offer. Whether you are a government entity, a private sector organization, or an individual interested in economic trends and policy analysis, the SA Centre for Economic Studies is here to provide you with the expertise and insights you need.
