As a part of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), the Geoff Gibbs Theatre has been a hub of activity for over 30 years, helping students fulfill their dreams of successful careers in the performing arts and entertainment industries.
At WAAPA, there is never a dull moment. Our world-class teaching staff and specialist tutors, who have gained valuable experience on stage and behind the scenes, share their knowledge and skills with our students. With impressive production, rehearsal, teaching, and performance facilities, WAAPA provides a supportive environment for students and academics.
In addition to our degree and VET courses, WAAPA offers corporate training and short courses across a range of disciplines. Our comprehensive range of performing arts training, both on stage and behind the scenes, sets WAAPA apart as a leading institution in Australia.
For those looking for practical tuition, our weekend and holiday workshops offer hands-on learning in areas such as acting, singing, music, dance, and music theatre. We are also thrilled to offer Professional Development opportunities for Drama, Music, and Dance teachers, taught by world-renowned staff in our state-of-the-art performance and teaching facilities.
Each year, WAAPA students, staff, and special guest artists participate in an amazing selection of performances. Booking a performance at WAAPA is easy, with multiple options available. We take pride in tracking the success of our graduates and celebrating their achievements. WAAPA postgraduate students and staff are also heavily involved in research and collaboration across various performing arts disciplines. Our research groups focus on a wide range of subjects within the arts, education, and performance.
The Geoff Gibbs Theatre, WAAPA's largest theatre, is a venue that hosts a diverse range of performances, including dance, theatre, musicals, opera, jazz, and contemporary music concerts. It has witnessed many memorable productions, such as West Side Story, Oklahoma, and Sweeney Todd, as well as a variety of theatre and opera performances.
With a maximum seating capacity of 297, the Geoff Gibbs Theatre is a proscenium arch theatre with a spacious main stage area and backstage facilities, including dressing rooms for performers and wardrobe maintenance facilities.
