Thorndon Park Reserve
Hamilton Terrace, Paradise, South Australia, Australia
About Thorndon Park Reserve
Welcome to Thorndon Park Reserve, the premier park and tourist attraction in our city of Paradise, Australia. This institution is not just an ordinary park; it is a place that celebrates inclusivity and accessibility for all visitors. As our city's principal park, Thorndon Park offers a unique experience for people of all ages and abilities.
The highlight of Thorndon Park is its historic reservoir, which holds great significance as the first reservoir built in South Australia to supply Adelaide. This reservoir serves as a reminder of our city's rich history and its commitment to providing essential resources for its residents.
One of the main draws of Thorndon Park is its brand new all-inclusive play space, completed in December 2022. This innovative playground is designed to cater to individuals of all abilities, with elements that ensure everyone can enjoy and have fun. Inspired by the diverse birdlife that thrives in Thorndon Park, the play zones are themed around flight, nesting, habitat types, and food sources. From wheelchair swings to wheelchair-accessible trampolines, there are numerous features that make this playground accessible to all.
Aside from the playground, Thorndon Park offers a range of amenities and activities for visitors to enjoy. Take a leisurely stroll along the walking trails that wind through the park and wetlands, immersing yourself in the beauty of nature. If you're a fitness enthusiast, you'll be delighted to find shaded outdoor gym equipment near the park's entrance, offering a variety of workout options.
When it's time to refuel, head to the Thorndon Park Kiosk, operated by the Rotary Club of Morialta. Open on weekends, the kiosk serves a variety of delicious food and drinks, including coffee, chips, and ice creams. You can also take advantage of the eight double electric barbeques and approximately 30 picnic tables scattered throughout the park for a delightful outdoor dining experience.
For those interested in the history and future of local food production, don't miss the mural at Thorndon Park that depicts this fascinating story. It's a testament to our city's commitment to sustainability and the preservation of our natural resources.
Please note that dogs, bikes, fishing, and swimming are prohibited at Thorndon Park at all times, except for registered guide dogs. We also provide ample parking for park visitors, including disability parking spaces, at our large sealed car park. Enter the car park at the intersection of Hamilton Terrace and Stradbroke Roads.
Thorndon Park Reserve is a place where inclusivity, nature, and history come together to create a memorable experience for all. We invite you to visit and explore this remarkable institution that embodies the spirit of our city.

"Can spend hours and hours here moving around different spaces. Picnic. BBQ facilities. Toilets. Community events are run here. Awesome new playground and lots of birdlife"
"Amazing evening...we went for a open air movie night ...huge play area.. washroom(not so well maintained but ok). There is a cafe just opposite to this park. Many party tables. You can hang around whole day with kids. For photographers, sunset is beautiful near the reservoir."
"This is one of the parks that impressed me the most in Adelaide. It's only about 12km from CBD. The most interesting feeling for me is walking around the lake, listening to the sound of running water and watching the flocks of pigeons flying in the blue sky. New and spacious children's playground with many interesting games is another amazing point. The walking paths are clean and green as well. This is an ideal place for children, youth, adults, the elderly... in general, all ages. However, we should note that the park does not allow dogs, swimming and fishing."
