Welcome to Southern Compass, an establishment located in Applecross, Gairloch Street, Australia. We are a health-focused institution that offers a unique form of therapy known as art therapy. Drawing on the fields of psychology and art, art therapy combines visual and verbal communication to facilitate healing through creative self-expression.

At Southern Compass, we believe that art therapy empowers individuals to live a more positive and meaningful life by allowing them to express themselves without the need for words. Through self-expression, you can gain self-knowledge, which in turn increases your sense of direction, purpose, and self-esteem.

It is important to note that art therapy is not about artistic skills. Even if you believe that you cannot draw, art therapy can still be beneficial for you. The quality of your art piece is irrelevant to the therapy process, and we encourage you to let go of any negative judgments.

In art therapy, your images become a starting point for conversation. You have the opportunity to reach your own conclusions and make decisions about the issues you present. This unique three-way process between you, the therapist, and the image creates a less threatening and confrontational environment compared to other therapies.

Our small groups engage in guided creative arts activities, where the emphasis is on the process of creating rather than the end result. During these activities, you can choose to share your thoughts and emotions, fostering open discussions.

For those seeking an alternative or stepping stone towards art therapy, we also offer supportive discussions to address any concerns and work towards resolution in a way that suits you and builds your skills for the future.

While we primarily focus on the needs of women, individuals on the Autism Spectrum, and spiritual direction, we consider all clients and their unique circumstances. We understand that therapy is a personal journey, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

In addition to in-person sessions, we also offer therapies conducted over the phone, and in certain situations, we can arrange for therapy sessions to take place in the comfort of your own home. All our services are completely confidential, ensuring your privacy and comfort.

At Southern Compass, we believe in the power of craft activities to positively impact mental well-being and provide a sense of purpose and accomplishment. That's why we are excited to announce that we will soon be offering simple sewing projects to help you cultivate your creativity. Our presentation, "Mend yourself by making," will be available to community groups.
