About Pioneer Women's Memorial
Welcome to the Pioneer Women's Memorial, a must-visit establishment and tourist attraction located in the heart of the Western Australian Botanic Garden in Kings Park, Australia. This iconic institution features an ornamental lake, stunning sculpture, and enchanting fountains.
The centerpiece of the Pioneer Women's Memorial is a magnificent nine-foot bronze sculpture, which was unveiled in January 1968. This sculpture, reputed to be the largest in Australia at the time, was created by Margaret Priest, the first female sculptor to undertake public art works in Western Australia. Priest also played a crucial role in the restoration of the memorial in 2009.
The sculpture depicts a mother holding an infant in her arms, symbolizing her stepping forth to meet her destiny. It stands on a stepping stone in the pond, surrounded by five other stepping stones and fountains, creating a mesmerizing display in the Water Garden.
The sequence of the water fountains holds a symbolic meaning. It starts with bubblers representing the bushes that pioneers had to navigate on their way to opening up the land, and then rises to taller spouts representing the trees around pioneer homesteads.
During the summer events season, the Pioneer Women's Memorial transforms into a magical setting for live concerts, adding a touch of enchantment to your visit.
To make your visit easier, you can use the WA Botanic Garden map to navigate your way to the Pioneer Women's Memorial. Please note that parking in Kings Park is restricted to visitors only.

We are also proud to share that vital conservation efforts in Kings Park have a promising future, thanks to the overwhelming support from the Perth community for the Lightscape project.
In addition, a memorial honoring the Australian servicemen and women who fought in the Korean War has been unveiled in Kings Park, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the armistice.

Reviews of Pioneer Women's Memorial
"a great place to visit"
"Great place for a concert. Crowded House."
"Fantastic night with George Ezra. Great food , drinks available, heaps of toilets. Spectacular venue."
"Beautiful spot in kings park. Close to front, lovely wildflowers toilets close by. Great picnic area. Watch out for the kookaburra though, they steal the food right off your plate."
"This beautiful place in Kings Park is a credit to the King's Park board and management. This Pioneer women's memorial is so beautifully done, and if you sit by the fountains and watch each piece as the water flows and ejects into the air. It is saying a message and honouring the Pioneer women of Western Australia. The memorial is surrounded by beautiful Lush Green Grass where you can sit relax, read a book or have a picnic. Or you can go for a leisurely stroll through the park land and botanical gardens. There is a car park right opposite the memorial and a set of public toilets."
