About the Business
Welcome to Walkerville Vet, a trusted establishment and point of interest in Australia's veterinary care community. Located at 142 North East Road in Walkerville, our institution is dedicated to providing exceptional care for your beloved animals.
At Walkerville Vet, we believe in building lasting relationships with our clients and their pets. Instead of seeing a new face each time, you can expect a familiar and knowledgeable team member who takes the time to get to know you, your animal, and their health history. We understand the importance of continuity of care and strive to provide personalized attention to every patient.
Our institution offers a range of services to cater to the specific needs of different animals. We have easy-to-follow puppy health care programs and Delta-accredited preschool classes, ensuring that your furry friends receive the best start in life. Additionally, we have special rooms dedicated to kittens and rabbits, allowing them to relax away from dogs.
As a state-of-the-art facility completed in 2019, Walkerville Vet boasts a spacious and highly equipped practice. Our team regularly undergoes vet and nurse education to stay up to date with the latest advancements in diagnostics and treatments. When necessary, we also refer our patients to specialists to ensure they receive the best care possible.
What sets us apart is our commitment to transparency and the well-being of your pet. As an independently owned institution, we do not have monetary targets or a bonus structure. This means that your pet will never be recommended a treatment that does not genuinely benefit them. Our pricing is transparent, and the cost of any treatment will always be discussed with you in advance.
At Walkerville Vet, we prioritize excellent customer service. You will be treated with friendliness, courtesy, and respect, and all your questions will be answered fully. We welcome your children to participate in their family pets' care, as we believe that a visit to the vet should be as enjoyable as possible for everyone involved.
Conveniently located directly opposite the Hampstead Road lights and the Hampstead Hotel, our institution is open from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 7 pm, and Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm. Please note that we are closed over Easter from Friday to Monday, reopening at 8 am on Tuesday. Our vets start consulting at 9 am. For emergency vet services outside our operating hours, we recommend finding your closest emergency vet.
We would like to express our gratitude for the trust and support you have shown us since 1999. Together, we have become an established part of the community, with numerous happy and healthy patients. To learn more about our services, please click on the provided links.
When you choose Walkerville Vet, you can expect caring, effective, and sensibly-priced services that utilize the latest equipment and knowledge in the field. Limited spots for our popular puppy preschool classes are now available on Wednesday and Thursday nights, providing your puppy with the best start to life.
We are also excited to share that we have made significant progress in treating feline and canine arthritis. Cats, who have historically had limited treatment options, can now benefit from Solensia, a new way to treat feline arthritis. For dogs, we have introduced Beransa, a groundbreaking canine arthritis injection. While these advancements are promising, we remain cautious and acknowledge that not every treatment will work for every animal.
You may have noticed changes in my personal work schedule in 2022, including a reduction in blogs. Rest assured, this is part of a longer process and not as significant a change as it may seem. Our dedication to providing exceptional care remains unwavering.
Thank you for choosing Walkerville Vet, where your pet's health and well-being are our top priorities.

"Had an annual health check for my cat with Dr Andrew Spanner and the lovely team at Walkerville Vet today. Have been with them since 2018 and would recommend them without hesitation. They are incredibly professional and genuine people who do know what they are doing. Thank you guys! Healthy cat and happy owners."
"The Puppy Preschool at Walkerville Vet is excellent, small classes, relaxed, not intimidating, fun and very informative. Very well worth it. This is our second time going through the puppy preschool at Walkerville Vet with our second dog. The instructors have always been very knowledgeable."
"Caring and friendly veterinary practice - we have been taking our dogs and cat here for many years. We usually see Dr Johann, who is always very knowledgeable, helpful and overall fantastic, but we have seen multiple vets here and they have all been wonderful. Highly recommend."
"I believe these guys are some of best vets, and I certainly don't mean to attack anyone but unfortunately my experience was not good. • I brought my dog in after noticing his glands were enlarged and he had became less interested in all his normal things, vomitting on occasion, and when I noticed blood in his stools and extremely dark urine I took him into vet same day. Despite explaining all this to the vet I was told he was not in pain and given antibiotics and metacam. I believe METACAM IS ABSOLUTELY INAPPROPRIATE medication for a dog in any type of digestive stress. • Biopsy procedure must have changed because this looked like a cross between a vigorous mini liposuction and digging the insides out of a golf ball with a pin! And repeated 4 x times • Even without clinical measurements ( heart rate, blood pressure etc) I know when my dogs breathing and heart rate is different from normal and when he's lost interest in everything that he normally enjoys, and especially when I start to see his widened pupils and the hollow look of pain in his eyes.. I know he IS IN PAIN. • Sadly Ziggy had to be euthanased a week later due to the lymphoma but in the days beforehand, his organs struggling I lay with him for hour upon hour while he moaned and struggled to breath with fluid accumulating around his chest... But oh no I'm wrong, lymphoma not painful.. OFFENSIVE!!! I'm sorry if this feels like an attack I don't mean to at all!.. what you guys do is amazing and your compassion for these creatures is a beautiful thing. Nothing would have changed the outcome but what I do know is I had a rescue dog that had been horribly mistreated in 4+ years before I got him.. Fearing everybody and everything, after a year he finally stopped trembling, after 2years he completely trusted me and I promised him I would never let him be in pain again. It broke my heart to see fear in his eyes during the biopsy's, (If it was my old dog she would have been too interested in the liver treats coming her way to even notice any needles). I'm sure everyone was doing their best. I cannot accept that this is what is best practice."
"I have been taking my beautiful dogs to Walkerville Vet for 8 years. I can't speak highly enough of Andrew and his staff. My dogs have always received top quality and cost effective services, and all staff are exceptionally caring. I highly recommend the practice."
