New Start Counselling and Psychotherapy

Welcome to New Start Counselling and Psychotherapy, located in Port Adelaide on Lipson Street. We are an establishment dedicated to providing mental health counselling for women, teenagers, and children. We understand that life can sometimes feel overwhelming, and trying to navigate through these challenges alone can be difficult. That's why we are here to offer support and guidance.

Our counselling services are tailored to meet your specific needs, taking into account your unique story and perspective on life. We believe in the importance of flexibility, openness, and non-judgment within the counselling space. Our goal is to help you build strengths and create a positive foundation for living your best life.

Our counsellor specializes in working with females of all ages, including teenagers and children, who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, or other issues. We are passionate about empowering women to become the best versions of themselves and live fulfilling and happy lives. We meet you where you are on your mental health journey, providing a safe and supportive environment.

One of the unique aspects of our counselling services is that you do not need a Mental Health Care Plan to access our services. We understand that some individuals may feel overwhelmed or hesitant about discussing their mental health with their GP, so we have made it easier for you to seek help without that step. As a qualified and accredited counsellor, our approach is centered around your needs and preferences. We typically start with Person-Centred Therapy, allowing you to take control of your well-being and healing. Depending on your goals, we may incorporate other approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or a combination of different techniques. We particularly resonate with ACT, as it helps us approach our thoughts and feelings with kindness and acceptance.

Our counsellor, Samantha Seymour, holds a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours in Aboriginal Studies. She is also currently undertaking Play and Creative Therapies Training. Samantha is an Accredited Professional Member of the Australian Counsellors Association (ACA).

At New Start Counselling and Psychotherapy, we believe that our lived experiences shape our strengths. Through connection, knowledge, and shared learning, we can discover our true essence and create a better future. We advocate for an inclusive and self-deterministic approach to counselling and psychotherapy, moving away from the Westernized model. We believe that real-life experiences hold more value than any lecture or theory.

We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we live and work is the traditional lands of the Kaurna people. We pay respect to their spiritual relationship with their country, and acknowledge them as the custodians of the Adelaide region.
