Discover Me Occupational Therapy
About the Business
Welcome to Discover Me Occupational Therapy (DMOT), a leading institution located in Padbury, Gibson Avenue, 73. We are an establishment that specializes in providing health services and are considered a point of interest in the community.
At DMOT, we offer developmentally sensitive Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for individuals of all ages and stages. Our team of experts also provide Child Centred Play Therapy for children, which focuses on counseling and mental health for young ones. Additionally, we offer Child Parent Relationship Therapy based on the Circle of Security model.
We understand the importance of effective communication, which is why we offer language translation interpreter services upon request. Our services cover a wide range of occupational therapy needs, including child, adolescent, and adult mental health. We cater to individuals of all ages, including early childhood, children, young people/adolescents, and adults.
We want to make our services accessible to as many individuals as possible, which is why we accept Private Health Insurance rebates for families with Occupational Therapy cover. No referral is required to receive our services. If you have a Health Care Card, please let us know so we can accommodate your needs accordingly.
Fiona, our experienced therapist, is able to accept Mental Health Treatment Plans and Chronic Disease Management Plans from your GP, Paediatrician, or Psychiatrist. With a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, you may be eligible for up to 20 sessions each calendar year. Fiona is registered as a mental health care provider with Medicare and is trained in Focused Psychological Strategies. A Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan allows up to 5 allied health consultations, including Occupational Therapy, per calendar year. Please note that a referral and mental health care plan or CDM plan is required from your GP, medical practitioner, or Psychiatrist before Occupational Therapy can commence under Medicare. When making your GP appointment, please ask for a long appointment to allow time to discuss the mental health care plan for you or your child.
Payment is required at the time of consultation and can be made through bank transfer, cheque, or cash. Unfortunately, we do not offer credit card or card facilities.
Our specially designed therapeutic playroom is the perfect environment for developmentally sensitive CBT in the Play Therapy setting. Play Therapy is a form of counseling that caters to children aged 3-10 years. It allows children to play out their worries and concerns with the support of a Play Therapist. Through Play Therapy, parents, teachers, and caregivers can gain a deeper understanding of what their child is going through. It can be particularly helpful for children experiencing emotional, social, and behavioral difficulties.
At DMOT, we understand that emotional, social, and behavioral difficulties, as well as significant traumatic life events, can have lasting effects on a child's life at home, daycare, or school. Some of the difficulties and situations where Play Therapy may be helpful include emotional difficulties such as depression, low mood, separation anxiety, aggression, and low self-esteem. It can also address behavioral difficulties like dependency on others, withdrawal, bedwetting, and eating problems. Play Therapy is effective in addressing social and relationship difficulties such as bullying, problems making and keeping friends, family conflicts, and attachment and bonding problems. Additionally, it can assist children dealing with educational difficulties, major losses or disruptions in their lives, and more.
As an Occupational Therapist and Play Therapist, Fiona has specialist knowledge in child development and understands the potential impact of emotional, social, and behavioral difficulties on the child, the family, and their environments. We aim to support parents of children with difficulties by providing strategies and assistance for managing their child's behavior at home. If necessary, we can also provide advice to teachers and schools or daycare centers to ensure a holistic approach to your child's well-being.
Our counseling and therapeutic methods include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. These approaches aim to help you gain a better understanding of your problems, develop techniques to use in your everyday life, and maintain the progress made during counseling.
At Discover Me Occupational Therapy, we acknowledge and respect the traditional owners of the land throughout Australia and recognize their ongoing connection to the land, waters, and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures, as well as to elders both past and present.
