About Joseph Banks Secondary College
Welcome to Joseph Banks Secondary College, located at Banksia Grove on Joseph Banks Boulevard. Our college is not just a school, but a place of opportunity and growth for our students. At Joseph Banks, we take pride in offering unique pathway opportunities to ensure our students are prepared for their future endeavors.
We acknowledge and respect the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation, who are the traditional custodians of the land on which our college is built. We pay our respects to the Elders, both past and present, and recognize the contributions of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians in shaping the education of all children in this land.
We are honored to have received the 2021 Leadership Excellence Award in the Secondary School category for the Governor's School STEM Award. This award showcases our dedication to providing engaging and supportive STEM learning environments for our students. Science Minister Roger Cook commended our college for going above and beyond in this field.
One of the highlights of our college calendar is the annual Inter-house Athletics Carnival, which will be held on Thursday, August 31st. This fun-filled day allows students to participate in a variety of activities and earn points for their respective houses. For more information, please refer to the provided PDF or check the program.
We are thrilled to announce our participation in the Young Originals annual exhibition, a prestigious showcase of exceptional creativity and artistic talent. The exhibition, officially inaugurated by Melissa Gillet, President of WASSEA, and Professor Katya Johanson, Associate, promises to be an inspiring event. You can find more information about the exhibition on their website.
At Joseph Banks Secondary College, we believe in recognizing the achievements of our students. Recently, we celebrated the academic, sporting, cultural, and leadership accomplishments of our students during Semester 1, 2023. Over 300 certificates were presented, and it was heartwarming to have family members and special guests join us in honoring our students. Our talented classical guitar music students also performed during the event.
We are proud to offer our Fuelled program, which provides a free healthy breakfast to students every Friday in Xenia Cafe. This initiative is made possible through collaboration with Foodbank WA, the WA Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development, the Department of Education, Telethon, BHP, and Woolworths. Breakfast is served on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring our students start their day with the energy they need.
At Joseph Banks Secondary College, we are committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for our students. Join us on our journey of growth and discovery as we strive to empower our students for a successful future.

Reviews of Joseph Banks Secondary College
"DO NOT SEND UR CHILD HERE IF U WANT THE BEST FOR THEM. i have been attending this school for not even 2 years. i joined at the start of year 8 and im now in year 9. this school is appalling. i have learning disorders and a bunch of other mental illnesses like adhd, anxiety etc that the school HAS been informed about when i first joined. i will admit some of the teachers are absolutely gorgeous and good teachers. but some however are not. i will say i am a student who requires a lot of assistance within the classroom because of my struggles with maths and literacy but none of the teachers seem to want to help me or explain what we are doing within the class. i have a student care plan which i’m convinced the teachers do not read as they do not do any of the things listed in my plan. i have a ridiculous amount of absences because of the lack of care the school gives, my nan has had to contact the education department because of how this school is unable to help students who are challenged with work and bullying. the school has an absurd amount of bullying, fights, graffiti, etc. overall this school is an absolute joke. if you want the best for your child do NOT. send them to this school especially if they are special needs or requires more help within the classroom. i am so disappointed with this school and the effort they put in to help students who are struggling with mental health and learning difficulties."
"As a student who has been going to this school for the past 3 years now. From my own experience with this school, it isn't a good school at all. There's a lot of bullying in this school, but rarely does any of it get dealt with by the staff. There are lots of fights, a dirty school, and stealing, and it also rarely gets dealt with by most of the staff. There are a few great teachers willing to help students with their problems at school and a few kind students as well. But the majority of them are not good. This school is a bad school, and if I ever had a chance to choose not to attend this school in the first place, knowing what I know now about this school, I would."
"I’m a parent of a student there The receptionist that used to be at senior school reception last year was lovely. The new receptionist (Indian woman) is rude gives you a death stare and doesn’t smile . The other receptionist alongside her was fantastic."
"A kid named Kellen Booth bullied me consistently every day for 5 years, since 2017. He was in my classes, so this made it hard to avoid him. I remember I looked at his girlfriend "Kyla Lee" and he told me that he would "make me his lunch" if I looked at her again. The teachers did nothing about it, and laughed it off, telling me that I deserved it."
"I’m a student at the school. Deputy Principal pretends he cares about his students but he probably doesn’t. Teachers are alright but the students are subpar. There have been 10 fights in term 1, something the teachers are denying to my face. The uniform code is strict, to the point where I lose my good standing for wearing a white top and sport shorts. Their excuse is that it would misrepresent the school. But they ignore the issue of students wandering in front of cars when the day ends, and the nearby daycare being vandalised with swastikas, which most likely originated from the students at this school. Not to mention the uniform is expensive and low quality. They see themselves as an above average school, although sirens don’t exist and the students are rowdy. But that’s expected from public schools that dress up as private colleges."
