Reviews of The Great British Chippy
"Has seriously gone down hill over the last 6 months. Apparently this is acceptable to serve. It's greasy and burnt at the same time, which is quite the achievement. The fish bites were a weird texture, the batter was soggy and chewy as if they had been reheated. Two of the women behind the counter were absolutely miserable, so not worth calling up to complain. The younger girl was nice, but we'll drive a bit further to the Currambine one next time."
"We haven't tried this place before, but I can't honestly say it was the best battered snapper I've ever tasted. The batter was light & not greasy & the snapper was moist & flakey. The chips & gravy were great as well. Quick service & friendly staff. Will definitely be going back."
"Cannot recommend, fish was incredibly dry and squid rings disintegrated upon eating, both were clearly frozen. Chips were mushy and sub-par, and the whole meal was so oily it made both me and my partner feel ill after eating. I guess that serves the British palate. Can't recommend, especially not at the prices they gouge you for."
"I've eaten at the Butler outlet 10+ times over the last couple of years and I usually get black or white pudding and Brit chips. Tried the haggis recently and it’s amazing too! It's a different experience than most of the other fish and chip shops which is what you would expect with their branding. I'm not a Brit ex pat so there's no nostalgia component for me -- I only knew Aussie-style fish and chips before going here. Now, the 'hand cut' Brit chips do range from a little more soggy to a bit more cooked on different visits but they all have a big potato flavour -- and I like them! I usually douse mine in tomato sauce and eat the meal in my car in the shop carpark staring out at the working class urban environment! The shop still offers the pre-processed, factory made chips but if you do just want Aussie-style Fish and Chips made with those 'regular' commercial chips there are plenty of other places close by such as Mindarie Keys Fish and Chips, Shark Shack in Merriwa, and Rocks Fish and Grill at Quinns which are all very good. If you want to try something else on another part of the map then this is the place!"
