About Sakura Child Counselling and Play Therapy
Welcome to Sakura Child Counselling and Play Therapy, a warm and caring mental health service located in Caboolture, Australia. Our institution is dedicated to providing evidence-based support for children who may be struggling with trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, or behavioral issues at home or school.
At Sakura, we believe in the power of renewal and optimism, which is why we chose the name "Sakura," meaning cherry blossom in Japanese. We are here to support you and your child on a journey of self-discovery, helping you understand your child's behaviors from a fresh perspective and restoring optimism within your family.
Child Centered Play Therapy is at the core of our services, offering a developmentally appropriate counseling method for children aged 3-10. We understand that children may not be able to articulate their complex inner world through words, but they can express and resolve emotional conflicts through play, their natural form of communication.
Our play therapists are trained professionals who create a safe and nurturing environment for children to explore and gain understanding of their experiences. By fostering warmth, understanding, and acceptance within the therapeutic relationship, children can not only process their emotions but also rediscover their true selves.
Children love coming to play therapy because it allows them to create distance from emotionally intense experiences and feel safer while exploring their feelings. Depending on your child's age and needs, we may also incorporate other forms of therapy such as art therapy and expressive therapy.
We offer medium to long-term support through weekly sessions, with the number of sessions depending on the history and nature of your child's behavioral problems. We recommend a minimum of 12 sessions combined with parenting support sessions to achieve optimal results. Additionally, we offer family therapy that helps parents develop their relationships with their children through joined, non-directive play.
As a trauma-informed and clinically trained child and family therapist, I, Missy, am here to guide you and your family through complex and difficult times. My journey in this field began as a school volunteer, supporting children with behavioral issues. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with families who have experienced intergenerational trauma and witnessing heartwarming transformations in both the children and their families.
In addition to my expertise in Play Therapy, I am also a practitioner of Internal Family Systems therapy and provide attachment-based parenting advice and support. I believe in making therapy practical and simple so that parents do not feel lost in supporting their child at home.
At Sakura Child Counselling and Play Therapy, we offer adult counseling as well for clients experiencing psychological distress, not limited to parents. We understand that our past experiences as children can influence our parenting style and everyday lives, and we are here to help you navigate these challenges.
As a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association and an associate member of the Australian Play Therapists Association, you can trust that you and your child are in capable hands. We also offer advanced play therapy clinical training, Circle of Security Parenting Course facilitation, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.

Reviews of Sakura Child Counselling and Play Therapy
"Missy has been seeing my son for over a year now and I couldn't recommend her highly enough. I tell everyone about how wonderful her play therapy has been for my son, and what a difference it as made to our family. Not only does my son still enjoy his sessions each week, but one of my favourite parts of Missy's therapy is how she works so collaboratively with parents and other supports for the children. Her knowledge, wisdom and education she provides to parents to help them to support their children and their specific needs is incomparable. Knowledge is power and she certainly makes sure you understand in depth what is going on for your child, how to support them through it, and supports you throughout the journey. Missy genuinely cares so much for all the children she sees and I'm very thankful we discovered her."
"On the phone the play therapist assured me she could help with my sons anger outburst. Red Flags went up when she told me that her children are older now but she had not been a good mother to her children and this job was her way of making up for that!? She said she was trained in circle of security and likes attachment parenting. That’s what she teaches parents. She’d like to teach me . Well I already do attachment parenting and have done the circle of security program recently. I do not need help with parenting, I was there for her to help my son and see if there was an underlying reason why my son has these anger outbursts but once I let her know Im not here for parenting help she told me she wouldn’t be able to help my son with his anger outbursts? Because I am a good mum my son gets refused help? I am now questioning her formal qualifications. I would never recommend seeing this ‘play therapist’ total waste of my time."
"Missy has helped my daughter and I to reconnect; she helped her to open up and be more engaged with the world. She also helped me to understand my daughter and what she needed. I never thought we could have reached this stage. I’d definitely recommend Missy to anyone considering child Counselling or play therapy. It has been such a positive experience for my family."
