"All staff, doctors and nurses were incredibly caring, friendly and patient. They took the time to understand and examine and made a rather uncomfortable situation as comfortable as possible. I kept thinking I was admitted to a Private hospital as the level of care was next to none, including a wide variety and tasty hospital food. I am very grateful for the care that I received at Prince Charles."

"My mother went to emergency on the 27th June. She has since been in four separate areas, currently in GEM ward. I am so grateful for the care and compassion given to her from an amazing team of Doctors, Nurses, physiotherapists and other health professionals. "5/5 stars specifically to Emily from the Mental Health care team. The process from ER walk in to discharge was 14 hrs, and unfortunately/unfairly I was seen before people with physical pains. These people ended up walking out angry as they were really struggling, but I was quiet and not in active harm - it seems really unfair. The ER waiting room had a few physically distressed people and it's sad that they weren't seen to after waiting at least 5-6 hrs for someone to help them before walking out due to a lack of help. Once I was assessed in a small room I was told to sit in another waiting room. Staff were laughing during the small hours, and talking quietly then laughing again; it sounded like they were talking about patients but I could be wrong here and paranoid. I ended up eventually falling asleep on the floor, and a hospital worker woke me up saying the floor is disgusting, get up, so then I sat back on the chair and waited maybe up to an hour to be finally given a bed. The staff rustled up some food that tasted really bad but had some nutrition (vanilla yoghurt and cookies) but the apple juice tasted okay. I appreciate that they gave me food, which reminded me to eat. I then drank the Up and Go I'd packed in my bag and took my daily medication. I was left alone for a while, fell asleep again, and then woke up to be properly assessed. The lady (Emily) said she'd called my emergency contact and for me I thought that was really useful knowledge for me to know at the time. We talked for a while about my self harm thoughts, and we talked about resources I can use to help rather than a band-aid on the wound (such as calling Lifeline often). While it's still important to do that, being given resources to treat underlying traumas is something I am so thankful for to help my brain get better. I am happy that I was helped as best that could be done by Emily, and I sincerely felt heard, safe with her, action plans are in place to help my recovery, and we contacted my friends to make sure I had somewhere mentally safe for the next two nights to sleep. Thank you. Plan is to read through all the support resource documents (pamphlets) and go from there. To anyone reading that needs mental health crisis support, maybe here is a place to go but do bear in mind the absolute trauma from other patients' needs you'll have to endure in the ED then you might get lucky to have someone nice and compassionate and able to help. I hope all people get help in the ways they need, but the honest reality is that mental health in ED is not a streamlined nicely thought out process. Best to go to a community Safe Space first probably, but at that moment I needed help now, so put myself in an ED situation to try and get some help."
