About Yellow Patch camping zone
Welcome to Yellow Patch camping zone, located on the stunning Moreton Island in Australia. This campground offers a unique and unforgettable experience for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Situated on the western side of the island between North Point and Heath Island, Yellow Patch camping zone provides a range of camp sites that cater to different preferences. Whether you're seeking a secluded spot or a social camping area, you'll find the perfect site for your needs. Many of the sites offer breathtaking sea views and shaded areas, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings.
Access to Yellow Patch camping zone is limited to 4WD vehicles, ensuring a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere for campers. It is important to note that driving over dunes and vegetation should be avoided to prevent erosion and protect the nesting grounds of shorebirds and turtles. However, parking is available beside the camp sites, making it convenient for campers to settle in.
With a maximum of 14 available sites, marked with distinctive totems, Yellow Patch camping zone offers a sense of exclusivity and privacy. Due to seasonal closures, not all sites will be occupied throughout the year, allowing for a more intimate camping experience.
The camping zone is suitable for various types of camping, including tent camping beside your car, camper trailers, and even large groups. However, it is important to note that facilities are limited. There are no amenities provided, so campers are encouraged to bring their own portable toilets for hygiene purposes. Additionally, it is crucial to dispose of waste properly, as the island's delicate ecosystem must be preserved. North Point campground, located nearby, offers hybrid toilets and a cold water shower for campers' convenience.
For those who enjoy cooking outdoors, open fires are permitted in existing fire sites, except during fire bans or prohibitions. However, it is recommended to use fuel or gas stoves instead of open fires to minimize environmental impact. Furthermore, generator use is allowed between 8am and 7pm, ensuring a considerate and peaceful camping experience for all.
Before embarking on your camping adventure at Yellow Patch, it is important to come prepared. Essentials to bring include drinking water and containers, water sterilization tablets, rubbish bags, sunscreen, insect repellent, firewood, an axe, sealable containers for rubbish, a first-aid kit, a shovel, portable toilet, and sand pegs.
