About Tangalooma Beach
Welcome to Tangalooma Beach, located on the stunning Moreton Island in Queensland, Australia. As one of the top beaches in the state, Moreton Island is renowned for its iconic coastal beauty and is a must-visit destination for beach lovers.
Nestled between Moreton Island and Moreton Bay, Tangalooma Beach boasts pristine white sands and calm waters, creating the perfect environment for a range of water activities. Whether you're looking to take a refreshing swim, go snorkeling to explore the underwater wonders, or try your hand at kayaking or paddleboarding, Tangalooma Beach offers it all. And if you're in the mood for some relaxation, why not float around on an inflatable flamingo β we've seen it done!
Just a few meters away from the resort center, Tangalooma Beach provides easy access to food and drinks, making it a convenient and enjoyable beach experience for all resort guests. And here's a unique treat β every evening, a family of wild dolphins makes an appearance right beside the jetty on Tangalooma Beach, creating a magical experience for visitors of all ages.
For those seeking even more breathtaking scenery, Honeymoon Bay, located between Cape Moreton and North Point, is a hidden gem that will leave you speechless. With its picturesque half-moon shape and crystal-clear waters, Honeymoon Bay is the perfect spot for a refreshing swim after exploring the island's stunning bush walks. However, please exercise caution as the beach can sometimes have rips, hidden rocks, and large waves.
If you're a surfing enthusiast, you're in for a treat on the eastern side of Moreton Island. With over 25 kilometers of sandy shoreline, known as the surfside to locals, this unsheltered beachfront offers some impressive wave breaks that will challenge even the most experienced surfers.
The rocky volcanic walls on Moreton Island create unique natural pools along the shoreline, known as the "champagne pools." As waves crash over the walls, the water cascades down, resembling champagne, creating a mesmerizing sight. These pools are constantly replenished by the waves, offering a refreshing and invigorating swimming experience. However, be cautious as larger surprise waves can occasionally come crashing over the walls with force.
Heading north, you'll discover approximately 11 kilometers of shoreline with beaches that are generally safe for swimming. However, please be aware that the beachfront can change, and occasional rips can occur, so always exercise caution.
For a family-friendly beach experience, Bulwer Beach is a popular choice among locals. Protected from waves due to nearby shipwrecks, this beach provides a safe environment for swimming and is a great alternative to the Tangalooma Wrecks. Visitors can also enjoy snorkeling near the wrecks without venturing too far from the shoreline.
Cowan Cowan Beach offers a unique reminder of World War II with its sandy concrete remains of a bunker. This beach is a favorite among young families, as it is closed off to vehicle traffic, creating a safe space for swimming and beach activities like cricket.
Please note that while the Tangalooma Wrecks are usually patrolled by lifesavers and lifeguards during the local school holiday period, there are no lifeguards patrolling anywhere on Moreton Island. It's important to exercise caution when swimming or surfing, as strong currents are often present around the wrecks and the surf side of the island. Remember, it's always best to swim with a buddy.
Come and experience the beauty and adventure of Tangalooma Beach and Moreton Island. Whether you're seeking relaxation, water sports, or simply a day of fun in the sun, our stunning beaches offer something for everyone. Book your stay now and create memories that will last a lifetime.

"The island is beautiful, but full of cars. The beach is used as a street. It is not a good place for snorkeling, since the jet ski and fishing ships make it dangerous."
"Awesome beach within walking distance of the Tangalooma Resort accommodation. Found the beach not to be excessively busy, and the calm shallow water allow for paddle board, kayak and water activities."
"Spent 80.00 each just to see turtle's head for a half a second and then disappear never again."
