About Anstead Bushland Reserve
Welcome to Anstead Bushland Reserve, the largest bushland reserve owned by the Brisbane City Council on the stunning Brisbane River. Spanning over 130 hectares, this establishment is a true paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
Situated approximately 20 kilometers southwest of the Brisbane CBD, Anstead Bushland Reserve is easily accessible with entrances located off Hawkesbury Road in Anstead. As you explore the reserve, you'll be surrounded by open eucalypt forests, with pockets of rainforest species nestled in the moist gullies and along the riverbanks. This diverse range of vegetation creates a thriving habitat for a wide array of native plants and animals, including the iconic koalas, echidnas, wallabies, and powerful owls.
Birdwatchers will be delighted to know that the reserve is home to up to 200 species of native birds, making it a haven for bird spotting. Grab your binoculars and immerse yourself in the symphony of bird calls as you explore the trails and paths within the reserve.
Anstead Bushland Reserve holds a rich history and offers visitors a glimpse into the past. The remnants of a basalt quarry can still be observed from the lookout point at the top of the old quarry. From this vantage point, you can also marvel at the panoramic views of the surrounding area and the meandering Brisbane River.
Whether you're seeking a leisurely bushwalk, a horseback ride through nature, or a peaceful picnic amidst the tranquil surroundings, Anstead Bushland Reserve has something for everyone. Restrooms are conveniently available for visitors' comfort.
The Brisbane City Council has developed a comprehensive concept plan to guide the future development and use of the reserve. This plan aims to provide a range of low-impact recreational activities and visitor facilities that cater to the diverse needs of the community. Rest assured, any new facilities will be designed in a way that preserves and protects the natural bushland restoration sites.

Reviews of Anstead Bushland Reserve
"Anstead reserve is a beautiful well maintained piece of tranquillity. Those responsible for the management of the reserve do a great job."
"Beautiful peaceful place, good walk"
"Good facilities, toilets, tables, water for dogs. Fairly easy walking tracks with a couple of decent views. Dog friendly (on leash). Not a huge area but enough for a couple of hours if you take your time"
"A lovely little reserve. Very flat, not really pram friendly as it's loose ground to walk on. It's pretty with all the wild flowers now too! I found it a bit confusing, so took a picture of the map which made it much easier to navigate with!"
"A great public space with native bushland and historical interest. The lower car park is close to amenities, toilets and picnic shelters. The trails crisscross the reserve, some for horses. The top (southern) car park is best for quick access to see Sugars Quarry from below. From the top car park, take the track west to the quarry and river; keep heading straight (don't follow the bitumen track curving right) follow the dirt track over the rise (water tank on right) and keep heading straight. Follow the track down the hill to the quarry and information board. From here you can see the Brisbane river, the quarry workings and the lookout at the top of the quarry. When you walk back up, at the top of the hill, turn left to follow the trail to the lookout with panoramic views including the Brisbane River. You can keep walking in a clockwise direction till you get to the lower (northern) carpark ... or keep walking through to where you started."
