Reviews of Wahoo Pool & Landscape Construction
"We are delighted to share our experiences working with Wahoo Pool and Landscaping. Wahoo are great to deal with, both professional and friendly. They always respond quickly. The designs they provide for our concrete pools are impressive. We value our working relationship and we look forward to working with them in the future. We highly recommend."
"Simply awful! Our pool and landscaping took 11 months to complete (in time for Winter). In summary - disappointed and very stressful experience. If you want a proactive, organised, good communicator and project manager, then carefully consider who you choose to do your pool. Wahoo may or may not be it. Now here’s our detailed review. We went with Wahoo because we liked the design and the way the owner, John, operated. However, just before our project started the company was sold (we were unaware this was happening). Our project started mid-August 2021 and we were told the pool would be ready by the end of January. It has just been completed 11 months later (4x8m pool, and four retaining walls) just in time for winter. We had one variation where our block wall was extended (which added about a week to the block layers schedule - at most). Despite having provided survey drawings and plans at quotation stage, we were hit with a huge over run in excavation and backfilling costs. Invoicing of milestones was out of the order in the contract, items were delivered to site much to early - e.g, filtration equipment, heat pump, and pool robot which sat in our back yard for over 10 months. The boxes disintegrated on our equipment and at one stage the filter and heat pump were submerged in water due to all the rain/flooding. The pool robot worked for one day and then stopped working and is now under warranty claim with Zodiac. Photos. Communication was poor throughout the project. Our project manager (Lloyd) resigned half way through the build, and we were not given another contact except for Mike who we had never formally met prior to this. During the February rain and floods no one contacted us to see if the site was ok, if the pool was ok etc. My husband ended up pumping out the incomplete pool shell because it was full of muddy rain water and a hazard to our kids. Subcontractor management is terrible too, the concreter came to pour our slab surround and ended up filling the trench dug for the in-ground roller box with concrete. No one from Wahoo was there to supervise the sub or tell them what needed doing. They splashed concrete on the new tiles and then used acid to get it off which burnt the marble tiles. The filled trench had to be jackhammered out again which took weeks. Photos. The concrete from this mess is still on site. Our pebblecrete is a bad quality finish & we still have stains on the wall. Our coping tiles are also ‘burnt’ by the acid. Photos. When the pool lights went to be installed Wahoo found that they had installed a different housing to the lights they had on site. So Travis (Wahoo) had to hand wire some other lights into the wrong housing. We wondered when the rendering of the block walls would be done and Wahoo replied that he had forgotten about that. As I indicted - scheduling and PM is not great. We were constantly told the delays were due to working on lots of other projects, subcontractors being booked up and that Wahoo “are not making any money on our project”….. it seems they were off building the pools of the other satisfied reviewers on here! We had to ask many times to get any work to happen on site and I sometimes felt I was managing the project myself. A pool maintenance company came to site last week and while they were here they commented that our filter was way too big for the size of our pool and they wondered why. We had no formal handover and never had anyone apologise. Definitely not the convenient, luxury / stress free experience we were expecting by engaging a builder. We should have claimed liquidated damages but frankly we are just happy it is over. Yes we do have a lovely pool now, we are very lucky, and the kids love it BUT it isn’t perfect & our experience with Wahoo sadly wasn’t great. Do your research very carefully when choosing a pool builder. Wahoo has since replied to this truthful review (in Wahoo style - 3mths later). A testimony to how bad this company was to deal with. I don’t want to waste anymore of my time on this & I’m not “INCORRECT”."
"We cannot be happier with the end product from the Wahoo Guys. Our pool is absolutely beautiful and exactly how we imagined it to be. The whole project was completed quickly and to a high standard. As a Tradie myself it was great to see the boys taking pride in their work area and leaving the site clean and tidy at the end of each day. However, the communication at times could be quite lax, it would’ve been nice to have a pre warning before receiving the occasional surprise invoice for certain things. Mike was great to deal with when explaining the reasoning behind the surprise invoices and once explained and everything understood we were happy with the fairness of the invoice. We would’ve just liked a heads up beforehand. Mike was equally as helpful if we needed anything organising, he would get straight to it and get everything requested happening. Towards the end of the project we felt as though because they had built the pool, we were no longer their top priority. This showed when we were persistently asking for our soft scape to be completed. Only to be told by Lloyd that the landscaping company were just busy even though it should've been all booked in and ready to go. A few weeks later, nothing had been organised and were told it would be better if we could do it ourselves. However Wahoo were keen to still turf our area and not move much on the soft scape price on our contract. On top of that, we still had to purchase our plants etc. For this reason we’ve decided on 4 stars. Great end product, phenomenal work. Just more clarity needed and communication/organisation to be worked on. We have already recommended Wahoo to friends who’ve also committed to getting a pool installed. I’m sure as time goes on their communication will improve! Don’t be put off by that alone, I’d use them again without hesitation. Thanks Wahoo!"
"We are most grateful to John and Cathy, the owners and directors of Wahoo Pool and Landscape Construction – who have overseen the design, planning, construction and completion of our beautiful pool. In one word – exceptional! We were so impressed with how such a major project could be done in a very calm, systematic and professional way. Everybody involved obviously enjoys the work they do, and their expertise was first class. We thank the entire Wahoo team and all the associated trades who contributed to our project. First impressions certainly count. At the very beginning, we met with Grace (landscape architect) who went above and beyond, working out the best design and location for our pool and pavilion (taking into account the sun, the breezes and our Frangipani tree!). This positive experience was consistent with everyone we engaged with – including Travis (the pool whisperer), Adam (logistics), Jeanette (coordination), Jayson (tiling), Mark (carpentry), Shaun (plumbing) and Brendan (electrical). For our family, we know that our new outdoor pool and living area will give us many years of enjoyment with friends and family. Thank you Wahoo for making this dream a reality."
"We were lucky enough to build our first pool and landscape with Wahoo Pools over 6 years ago. On purchasing our new home there was no choice, it had to be Wahoo Pools. The pride and hard work every single member of the team emanate is beyond compare, this is a testament to the John and Cathy. From the contractors to the staff I always found them a pleasure, something important when you are about to spend some weeks together. Please pass on an extra special thank to Ben and the boys they were a delight to work with. Thank you Wahoo Pools for building our family a beautiful, unique pool and bright happy garden. It has been hard to capture how beautiful my new outdoor space is in photos."
