About the Business
Welcome to Dr Fay Chao's gynaecological clinic, located in the beautiful suburb of Mount Waverley in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs. Our clinic is a point of interest for individuals seeking quality care and support in the field of urogynaecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery.
Dr Fay Chao is a dedicated urogynaecologist, pelvic reconstructive surgeon, and gynaecologist who is committed to providing the finest treatment and clear communication to all her patients. With her extensive training and experience, she ensures that each patient receives the highest level of care in her area of specialty.
Dr Chao graduated with honors from Monash University in 1999 and completed her specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology fellowship training in Melbourne in 2009. She then pursued a three-year accredited subspecialty training in urogynaecology, receiving the Certificate of Urogynaecology in 2012.
During her subspecialty training, Dr Chao gained invaluable experience in managing pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence. She is skilled in pelvic reconstructive surgery, utilizing various approaches including vaginal, laparoscopic, robotic, and open techniques, with or without the use of mesh. Additionally, she is trained in performing and interpreting urodynamics and conducting sling procedures for the management of urinary incontinence.
At our clinic, we offer a range of services including the management of pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, urodynamics, general office and operative gynaecology, and robotic surgery. We understand the impact that these conditions can have on a woman's life and strive to provide effective treatment options to improve quality of life.
Dr Chao's expertise extends to the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI), a condition that affects a significant percentage of women. Many women are unaware that there are simple and effective treatment options available for SUI, which can greatly improve their social, personal, and physical well-being.
We also address the common problem of "overactive bladder," which can cause frequent and urgent trips to the toilet, as well as occasional urine leakage. Our clinic aims to provide information and solutions to help manage this distressing condition.
For comprehensive assessments and diagnostics, we offer urodynamics testing to evaluate bladder function. This test, called cystometry, provides valuable insights into the bladder's ability to store and pass urine.
To enhance surgical precision and minimize invasiveness, Dr Chao utilizes the advanced da Vinci Surgical System. This state-of-the-art technology allows for minimally invasive procedures with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity, and control. With the da Vinci System, your surgeon can perform routine and complex surgeries with greater accuracy and improved patient outcomes.

"Amazing specialist. Caring and wonderful. Excellent surgical outcome. Highly recommended."
"I have been a patient of Dr Fay Chao for the past six years. Fay has always been extremely professional, sensitive and compassionate to my needs. After discussing my alternatives, Fay performed major surgery on me with a successful outcome and her care in explaining all of the procedures, pre-testing and post surgery was very comforting. Her follow up after my surgery and since has been wonderful and Fay has been available at short notice to answer any concerns I may have and has followed up at regular times just to check how I am going. I have recommended Fay to my family and friends who may require her expertise."
"Is there any chance I can give this so called Dr a "zero star". Seriously, she definitely missed the classes when "professionalism" was taught. She has got no common sense, no empathy, no professionalism at all. Extremely rude doctor I have ever seen in my life. She asked me a complicated question that I didn't understand so I asked her to repeat, and she rolled her eyes as if I have done something really wrong. End of the day we are paying you $270 for your 10-15 minutes. During the whole assessment and throughout the appointment I found her rude and unprofessional. I am not going to see her again, and would not recommend to anyone. Sorry If you don't like this profession then leave it for God's sake !!"
"Honestly, if you're looking for a more qualified person just go somewhere else.."
"If you’re looking for experience, empathy and understanding or a doctor with knowledge I suggest you look elsewhere. After crying to Dr Chao on more than one occasion about the pain I was in I was told it was as a result of trauma and some physio and a change of pill was my answer. After this didn’t help she suggested I get some type of electro therapy to teach my body to ignore the pain signals my body was sending my brain as she was sure it was just muscle spasms and in my head. Believing her as a specialist and someone of authority and with a degree I began doubting myself and ignoring my body and destroying my self esteem. Until I could barely get out of bed. A year later I got a second opinion. 5 minutes with another doctor they booked me in for surgery within 3 days. Endometriosis has wreaked havoc through my pelvic area including on my bladder and in my pouch of Douglas. Glad I chose not to turn off my body sending signals to my brain that it was in pain as this is just one diagnosis I’ve received since meeting Dr Chao. Always believe in yourself, listen to your body, no one knows it better than you, and always get another opinion. Don’t let doctors stereotype you and make them LISTEN to you. You deserve to be heard. You deserve to be healthy."
