Reviews of Edinburgh Castle Hotel
"Went for after work drinks and some dinner. The place was full of tradies but had a great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly but didn't really warm to our Dad jokes. No one does I suppose. Our meal was great and good value. Sat and watched the big screen. Pretty good night with friends."
"Went for a Saturday lunch and ordered Nachos and Pizza from the table ordering system. The Nachos were ready first and were disappointing at $19 for something that tasted amd looked like it all came assembled from cheap supermarket pre-made items, with some cornchips burnt on the top. The pizza ($22) came some time afterwards and had a similar composition and taste, and the base was raw in the middle. Thankfully the chef took it back apologetically and made another one which was better, but couldn't escape the same taste given the ingredients, even the base still tasted like one of the cheap ones you'd get from a supermarket. Part of the experience of eating out is someone cooking for you, but we also expect the food to be a certain quality according to price. We've generally experienced better quality for the same/similar price at many other venues, which this venue unfortunately didn't at least match. Additionally, we weren't told when our orders were ready (apart from the pizza remake which I would have thought they'd bring around to the table), luckily we were sitting in a spot where we could see the food waiting for collection. The atmosphere and decor etc didn't improve the experience either."
"I booked the table for 12, we got there and found out it wasn't booked. So there was only 1 cook, and we waited an hour for our food. Other than that, the food was great, and the cook did a great job, considering she was on her own."
"Addendum: I have upgraded to 3 stars! Hubby went to a function here a week later for 25 people. He said everyone was satisfied with their meals, and said they were regular pub meals as you would expect. Nothing out of the box, but just as you would expect to find in any Brisbane pub. So - good on you guys for upping your game. (But sadly on the day we were there checking out the food for the function, the chef didn't seem to have her eye on the ball, and was not ready to hear that something was not quite right with the food.) I hate writing negative reviews but I have to say lunch today was mostly left on my plate. Gotta say the staff were lovely and friendly, but the food let us and them down. My barra had clearly come out of the freezer; that’s okay but it was flat and dry like a piece of cardboard; not pleasant to eat. The hollandaise was either rancid or just made with some really odd substances. (The friend said it tasted like orange!) The chef disagreed and said it was buttery; nope, just tasted awful. Hubby said it came out of a large catering container, so I hope the rest was edible but I doubt it. She did replace it with a not too bad aioli. (Oh yes, and the mash was almost cold.) Hubby had a meat pie with onion rings. He said the pie filling was pretty good but the pastry undercooked and not nice to eat. The friend had chicken parma, which was a generous size – in fact, she took half of it home so I guess it was okay. All up, a disappointing experience though the many ladies of a certain age who were lunching would disagree I suppose."
