"Make sure you are ready for a call from them saying sorry we are too busy to pick up the delivery as we are too busy, but we can pick it up is you pay more on a VIP, they do it for us every time."
"Went for a interview here and to say the least I never went back. The person I had interview with wasn't very professional, I felt very uncomfortable and he never really gave me any information I asked. Left there very deflated"
"Civic Transport has a solid brand and reputation for its services, for which there's always steady work available. I worked for them and enjoyed the driving, discovering new locations, efficiency and responsiveness of deployment (via mobile app and their radio room) plus (however briefly) meeting some very interesting and friendly people particularly the feeling of meaningfully contributing to industry and getting an insight into their operations. Apparently owner-drivers can earn a good income and if the above features apply to you, you might also consider such a job for them. (1) IF however, you were interviewed and hired directly by a different company, Pontus Logistics (in response to their online job ad) to drive for Civic, then the former's owner: Felix and his sidekick, Damian, are actually responsible for a very different employment experience and income. Despite the everchanging and unconvincing word salads I got from Damian, (employed for a week and that was enough, especially (2) after a serious workplace injury for which he said I had NO WorkCover, because I was allegedly a "contractor") i.e. because (3) you are spuriously CALLED/ LABELLED a "contractor" by them, as part of their scheme (the ATO online analytical tool determines, based on fact, otherwise, i.e. an employee, not even a sub-contractor), or (4) that you're an "owner-driver" (though you own nothing: an old car: my first Pontus vehicle, driving in the hot sun, had no air con & was missing a window handle), the straps, net, even gloves supplied by Pontus, while the branded hi-vis polo shirts are also supplied, for which (5) they take a 30 % cut out of your pay (6) from whatever formula, rate, calculation etc, never shown or explained for its (according to Vivian, the payroll staff), "lease" of the Pontus vehicle, or (7) that Pontus are "facilitators"... (yeah, sure, and sweatshop owners are also facilitators of their trade) (8) but their drivers, using a Pontus company car, in company time, from site to site, as determined by deployment, for the profit of this company, also have to pay for fuel out of their own pocket (about $60/day) (9) which JobWatch calls "unlawful deductions": doesn't matter that one can later claim a partial tax deduction through the ATO, from your gross taxable income. (10) No lunch break, morning or afternoon break either, even if you start at 6 am and finish in the afternoon. (11) You don't get to keep a copy of the "legal" contract(s) they require signing (but it's nice that Felix goes to all the trouble of making one, even if it's in breach of the law... 谢谢亲爱的老板!) (12) ditto, their disingenuous requirement for drivers to get an ABN: we're "self-employed" contractors, you see. Fiction comes in many forms. (13) The Fair Work Ombudsman calls the Pontus Logistics arrangement a "sham contract". (14) A casual Transport Worker Grade 2 should earn $22.08/ hour, under The Road Transport and Distribution Award 2020, (MA000038) without having to pay for fuel. [May 2022] (15) One star rating only for Pontus Logistics for giving me (despite the long hours, early starts, heavy lifting, rapacious business model and "creative accounting") some meagre income and real world field experience. Go figure. (16) Written in the public interest, posted in good faith and under the principle of fair comment. Incidentally, legal action against Pontus Logistics (including via the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission) was initiated and I got some belated justice: payment of unpaid wages. Pontus then wanted to fraudulently claim such salary costs as "fuel expenses", so that they can make a tax deduction claim from the ATO. Ah, Pontus: the gift that keeps on giving."
