About Thomas Dixon Centre
Welcome to the Thomas Dixon Centre, located in West End, Australia. From its humble beginnings as a boot and shoe factory in 1908, this heritage-listed institution has been transformed into a world-class performing arts destination and cultural precinct.
At the heart of the Thomas Dixon Centre is a state-of-the-art 350 seat theatre, where captivating performances come to life. The centre also boasts stunning public art, dance studios, community spaces, and gardens, all designed with health and wellbeing in mind. It is here that the renowned Queensland Ballet finds its home, showcasing the beauty and grace of ballet to audiences from near and far.
Immerse yourself in an inspiring community that celebrates art, performance, food, and culture. The Thomas Dixon Centre is a place where stories unfold and ideas are shared, fostering a sense of innovation and creativity under one roof.
As you explore the centre, you'll notice the exquisite carpets designed by Brisbane artist Judy Watson. These carpets feature iconic elements from Queensland's nature, chosen for their beauty and significance to Aboriginal culture.
In the forecourt, you'll be greeted by the impressive trilogy of tall, dynamic columns known as 'Ensemble,' created by Newcastle-born artist Jamie North. These sculptures add a touch of contemporary artistry to the surroundings.
Inside the centre, you'll discover 'Continuous Life and Death at the Now of Eternity II,' a captivating digital artwork that continuously renders an image in real time, offering a unique and ever-evolving visual experience.
The Thomas Dixon Centre is also dedicated to nurturing and showcasing emerging talent. Queensland Ballet Academy student, Elijah-Jade, will be presenting her First Nations inspired piece at the upcoming Gala, while choreographer Remi Wörtmeyer will be sharing his work 'Miroirs' for Queensland Ballet's sixth season of Bespoke in 2023.
We are proud to announce that the Thomas Dixon Centre has recently been honored with four awards at the 2023 Australian Institute of Architects State Awards, recognizing its architectural excellence and contribution to the cultural landscape.
We extend our gratitude to our visionary donors and partners, whose support has been instrumental in shaping the Thomas Dixon Centre into what it is today.
As we celebrate the arts and culture, we also acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and perform. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present, and emerging, and recognize the valuable contributions they have made and continue to make to the cultural landscape of this country.
We strive to create an inclusive and accessible environment for all, welcoming and accepting people from diverse backgrounds and identities.
Come and experience the magic of the Thomas Dixon Centre, where creativity and inspiration intertwine, and where the future of the arts is celebrated and supported.

Reviews of Thomas Dixon Centre
"First time here & seeing The Little Mermaid. Inside the building are brick walls the feel pretty stark. There are ballet shoes, tutus and service desks. The kiosk is pretty bland. Street parking is a disaster around here."
"Finally made it to the new Thomas Dixon! I’m sipping on a Tiny Dancer (of course) which is a divine blend of pinque rose gin (thanks west winds!) monin watermelon, rose prosecco, topped up with soda. Panoramic views with “the brown snake” obscured by trees, houses and apartment buildings. I’m hanging out for QB Bespoke. I guess a bit more patience is required here. I’m so proud to have such an awesome hometown where we honour the arts, beauty, architecture, design, landscaping and in this case especially ballet. Lin has and is continuing to do such an amazing job. This is a place where we can dream, admire, be swept of our feet with amazement of … all things full of grace, adorable, from the heart and from the soul. XO"
"Nev and I did a tour of the Thomas Dixon Centre, now Queensland headquarters. Simply magnificent! We loved how they've combined the old and new architecture. Julia was our guide and she was very enthusiastic showing us all features of this 'wellness' building"
"A relaxing place to avoid the crowd from the nearby Montague Market to have a great coffee and enjoy some niche exhibition eg the digital art by Teamlab and related to Queensland Ballet"
"Attended a recent Qld Ballet performance here, we were impressed with both the Dixon Centre and new performance space. Intermit auditorium style theater, so no bad seats and great acoustics. The large entry atrium allows plenty of space pre and during intermissions. Bus stop opposite in Montague Road for those traveling from the city. All up, looking forward to attending the next performance here."
